Who Pays for Obama's Re-election?

Who Pays for Presidents to Raise Money for Re-election Campaigns? You Do!
By Jake Tapper, Richard Coolidge & Sherisse Pham
President Obama and Democrats have raised $250 million dollars so far this election cycle. But who actually pays for the president's travel costs so he can get to these multimillion dollar mansions to raise money? In part, you and I do.
So far this year, President Obama has taken four trips, including 18 fundraisers outside the greater Washington, D.C. area. But during each trip he also conducted official business. That means that the White House -- in other words, taxpayers -- splits the cost with the Obama campaign.
But how do they split it? Take Obama's recent trip out west, when he travelled to three states over three days. He attended eight fundraisers, and held just two official events - a factory tour in Wisconsin and a Boeing plant visit in Seattle.
The cost of operating Air Force One is $179,750 per hour, according to the U.S. Air Force. White House Pool reports show that the plane flew for nearly 12 hours for that trip, which means the plane ride alone cost more than $2 million. That doesn't even include the cost of flying advance workers and specialty vehicles ahead of time to the president's destination, not to mention the cost of setting up security.
So what was the total cost of that trip to taxpayers?
"We'll never know," said Brendan Doherty, who tracks presidential travel as a political scientist at the United States Naval Academy.
"Even on a trip that ends up designated as 100 percent political," he added, "taxpayers end up bearing most of the cost."
The campaign does not reimburse the government for the cost of flying Air Force One, but for the equivalent cost of flying the president and his staff first class on a commercial airline.
Indeed, Presidents Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, and on and on all used this same formula. Doherty says when it comes to presidents taking advantage of this billing technicality; each one exploits it more than his predecessor.
"If we were having this conversation 20 plus years ago, we'd be talking about George H.W. Bush's record-breaking funds. Four years after that we would be talking about Bill Clinton and how he shattered George H.W. Bush's records. Eight years later we'd be talking about George W. Bush eclipsing the fundraising pace that Bill Clinton set in his first term," said Doherty. "And now eight years later Barack Obama is breaking records that George W Bush set."
So far the Obama campaign has reimbursed the government $1.5 million.

MTW-
I really do not know what comments are appropriate after reading this. Politicians just have to out-do their predecessor. Bush did what he did in 8 years, how did Obama do it in less than 4? Is it some power trip, or a contest to see which president can do it the fastest? Why do those folks whom choose not to want Obama re-elected have to pay for his campaign for said election? This Country I love so much is not simply broken, it has been shattered. WE pay. They have not done a real day of work in their entire lives. They will argue with you about that, stating that politics is hard work; they are ignorant of the fact that they are ignorant of what a REAL day of HARD work is. School does not count. Have they ever lived week to week, or hand to mouth? You know the answer. 99.999999999% of them are liars-I mean lawyers. Sorry, typed that the way I would have pronounced it if I lived in New York, or New England. It is the same definition for both words. I say this: We need to go South, and become illegal Mexicans. No politicians allowed, a REGULAR person gets to run things for a year, but it is Mexico. Very few laws being enforced there it would appear. In that place, with our remaining money, if you do indeed have some, would be a paradise (except for the cartels, so we bring some guns, tanks, et cetera). If you thought I may have a better idea, remember, it is very cheap to live in Costa Rica, and most of us now know a little Spanish. I do, I live near Orlando. Every time we had a ride on the Disney World mono-rail, we got information in English and Spanish. That started in the 80s people! Do not think I am not against ANY Latino. My best friend is from Puerto Rico. My Spanish is as good as his.

John Glenn Frustrated on 50th Anniversary of Friendship 7

By NED POTTER | Good Morning America – Mon, Feb 20, 2012 9:51 AM EST
For John Glenn, who 50 years ago became the first U.S. astronaut to orbit Earth in his Friendship 7 Mercury spacecraft, today is a bittersweet anniversary.
Twelve astronauts have since walked on the moon. Robot space probes have visited every planet from Mercury to Neptune, and another is on its way to Pluto. And there has been at least one American living in space at any given time for the past dozen years; six men -- two Americans, three Russians and a Dutchman -- are today orbiting on the International Space Station.
But the United States, having retired its aging fleet of space shuttles last year, has no way at the moment to launch its own astronauts. NASA has plans for a new Space Launch System (SLS for short), and hopes private industry will take on the job of ferrying astronauts to the space station. But, for now, when the United States needs to launch an astronaut, it rents a seat on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
"It's unseemly to me that here we are, supposedly the world's greatest space-faring nation, and we don't even have a way to get back and forth to our own International Space Station," Glenn said during the celebrations marking the anniversary of Friendship 7.
The world was a very different place when Glenn made his five-hour flight. The Cold War was at its most chilling. The United States had been embarrassed by the first Soviet satellite and the first Soviet cosmonaut. President John F. Kennedy asked his aides if there was something -- anything -- America could do to beat the Russians in space. NASA tried, but the Atlantic floor off Cape Canaveral was littered with the wreckage of failed rockets.
America did not just need better boosters, it needed bigger heroes. It found seven: the original Mercury astronauts. And the one with whom it most fell in love was Glenn.
Fifty years ago, on Feb. 20, 1962, Glenn squeezed into his Friendship 7 capsule, circled the earth three times in five hours and became a national hero.
"Zero-G and I feel fine," he said from his spacecraft. "Man, that view is tremendous."
Historians' descriptions of the time describe a mood that seems almost alien now: a nation of people fearful of Soviet attack (the Cuban missile crisis would happen eight months later), glued to their black-and-white TV sets, watching a man in a silver spacesuit climb into a tiny capsule and disappear into the sky.
It was likened to single combat. The Soviets were Goliath. Glenn was David.
"We hadn't really thought that any nation could even touch us technically," Glenn said in a 1998 interview with ABC News. "And all at once, here was this bunch of Soviets over there, for heaven's sake, outdoing the United States of America in technical and scientific things."
John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth.
After the flight of the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in May 1961, Kennedy had committed the United States to landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Glenn later said he wondered at the time how NASA would pull it off.
The Atlas rocket that would launch his Mercury capsule was famously unreliable; it had blown up on several test flights.
Glenn named his spacecraft Friendship 7, honoring his fellow astronauts. He would make three orbits of the earth. His launch was scheduled and scrubbed no fewer than 10 times in four months.
And then it was launch day -- Feb. 20, 1962. Glenn woke early, had breakfast, put on his pressure suit and climbed into Friendship 7 before dawn. The countdown moved toward zero. In the control center, Glenn's backup pilot, Scott Carpenter, keyed a microphone and said, "Godspeed, John Glenn."
Glenn did not hear him; Carpenter was not on his radio link. Instead, he felt a jolt as the rocket left the launch pad.
"Roger, liftoff, and the clock is running. We're under way."
The Atlas did not fail. Five minutes later, he was in orbit.
The nation hung on every moment of his flight, one man, alone in the void, in a capsule so small (6 feet in diameter at the base) that he could not stretch out his arms. He reported that weightlessness was pleasant. He marveled at the "fireflies" -- later determined to be flecks of frost -- that drifted away from Friendship 7 when he rapped on the hull of the spacecraft.
Glenn was having a wonderful time. But then, trouble. As he began his second orbit, Mission Control received a signal suggesting that the heat shield, designed to prevent the capsule from burning up during reentry, had come loose. Worried controllers feared they might lose Glenn. They ordered him not to jettison the capsule's retro rockets, strapped on over the heat shield, after he fired them to descend from orbit.
The outside of the capsule heated to 3,000 degrees as the atmosphere slowed it. Glenn watched as chunks of debris flew past the window and wondered whether it was the retro pack breaking up, or the heat shield.
It held. He splashed down safely in the Atlantic Ocean. America had probably seen nothing so daring since the transatlantic flight of Charles Lindbergh.
Crowds mobbed him at a ticker-tape parade in New York. Kennedy, who saw Glenn's star power, welcomed him at the White House. He returned to work at NASA and lobbied for another flight, but the Kennedy administration had quietly let his bosses know he was too much of a national icon to risk in space again.
The Americans would gradually overtake the Soviets in space. Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969. But we no longer live in the space age. Glenn has complained publicly that since the space shuttles were retired last year, America has not had a way to launch its own astronauts into orbit. And Glenn's mantle as hero has only taken him so far; a run for president in 1984 left him in debt for years.
John Glenn is 90 now, dividing his time between Washington and Ohio after a long career in the U.S. Senate. He and his wife Annie have been married for 69 years, slowed only by the inevitable maladies of age.
He did, after years of lobbying, get to fly on a space shuttle mission in 1998. He was 77 by then, arguing that some effects of weightlessness -- bone and muscle loss -- are similar to the effects of aging. While he was in orbit he said he was having such a good time that he might like another flight after that, but Annie, visibly angry, put a quick stop to that.
Glenn and Scott Carpenter, the two surviving members of the original Mercury 7 group, have been celebrated this weekend at events near Cape Canaveral, in Washington, and in Glenn's native Ohio. They have repeatedly said they hope the nation's space effort is only in a lull.
"John, thank you for your heroic effort and all of you for your heroic effort," said Carpenter in Florida. "But we stand here waiting to be outdone."

MTW-
It has taken me a few days, to simply come up with fitting remarks in response to such a courageous man, and also a childhood hero of mine. My father worked at Cape Canaveral for 30 years. He retired about a decade ago, right before his company went the way of the Do-Do. I have a large amount of space memorabilia, some of which features John Glenn. Mr. Glenn, I agree with you emphatically. How do we put BILLIONS of dollars in a space station we cannot even send a vehicle to; and what about our “partners” in the station? We do not even get along on Earth, and we are supposed to work with them in space? I do believe the VP in this administration has dropped the ball on their responsibility, and has stood silent as NASA, another intragovernmental agency, has been looted by our leaders; as for the Cape? Only massive lay-offs; Companies in existence for decades are no more. It breaks my heart too, Mr. Glenn. The Vice-President is in charge of the Space Program. Now, they have pledged more money for the Space Program, however, they also want to go commercial with the launch vehicles. If things go business as usual, it will more likely than not cost us; more than we can possibly imagine. As for the Astronauts whom have gone forth into space on the Russian vehicle, I suppose they have more courage than I, as did John Glenn when he strapped on that Atlas. Did they not explode every other launch in from the late fifties, until he went up in 1962, as does today’s Russian Soyuz? This is simply my own observation and opinion. Here is hoping yet again that this administration does not totally screw this up. Apologies for the delay getting this out, but I was pretty pissed when I read this article. I do not like to write when I am angry. This right now is me being nice. Godspeed to the future Obamanauts. (Astronauts desperate enough to take any ride to get into space) This Great Nation is supposed to be (or used to be) a world LEADER, as such, it is not right to have commercial companies building sub-par orbital vehicles, and many, many, many, many other things they are doing to drain every cent from our agencies, to pay for-well, I do not know. There is not a whole lot of news coming out about this Country, nor is there anyone seemingly held accountable for it all. Get the Hell out of our Oval Office, so that we might have another chance to regain the respect of the World.

Danica Patrick Gets Wrecked By Her Teammate

Danica Patrick not happy after getting wrecked again at Daytona
By Jay Hart, Yahoo! Sports 2-25-2012
Danica Patrick (7) gets spun by teammate Cole Whitt (88).
(Getty Images)
Just 48 hours after smashing hard into a retaining wall in a qualifying race for Sunday’s Daytona 500, Patrick got clipped again, this time by her own teammate, Cole Whitt, sending her into a spin and eventually the wall just 50 laps into the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
“What the [expletive],” she yelled over her team radio. “He [expletive] hit me.”
After driving her damaged race car to the garage, Patrick jumped out, helmet still on, and stormed into her team hauler, leaving a trail of media behind her.
It was the second time in three days her race was ruined by a crash that was no fault of her own. Thursday she got bumped by Aric Almirola; Saturday it was Whitt.
“I don’t think it’s ever great when teammates come together,” she said afterward. “We’ll have to figure out what happened and move forward.”
As Whitt explained it, the two were trying to use the two-car draft to move to the front, with him playing the role of the pusher.
“We’re teammates,” he said. “We want our team to win. I mean, that’s why we were pushing each other anyways – we want to get our team up front together.”
When told Patrick expressed her dissatisfaction over the radio, Whitt responded, “I wouldn’t expect her to be happy about it. I wouldn’t be happy about it either. I don’t know why anyone would expect her to be like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s great.’ ”
The wreck ruined what could have been a storybook day for Patrick, who on Friday became just the second woman ever to win a pole position for a Nationwide Series race. Starting up front, Patrick teamed up with her boss, Dale Earnhardt Jr., to lead the first two laps of Saturday’s race.
She was running comfortably in the top 20 at the time of the accident. She wound up 38th.
Lost in the hoopla that always surrounds Patrick is the fact that she’s running for a Nationwide Series championship. Saturday’s 38th-place finish means she starts the season in a significant hole.
“The bummer of it is not only is it the start to the championship and I’m in the championship and every point matters – which is why we went back out there again – but there are so many other days when your car isn’t perfect, isn’t super-fast and nothing happens to you,” she said. “And you think why on the days when I have a really fast car it has to happen today. But it did and we’ll move on.”

MTW-
A man can say what he so desires, yet, as I watched the race, he did a little more than “bump” her in the so called drafting maneuver. A hard hit, and not a “bump draft” style hit. Come on men, this woman is a good racer. It should not matter what her gender is, there in your little rich boy club. Do you think the boss- Dale Earnhardt is going to be happy that Cole Whitt caused her crash? I do not. She had already been wrecked in qualifying for the 500, by another driver. And now in the Nationwide race, by her teammate. If others cannot see this is an “angry man” thing, they must be blind. Go girl, do not let them stop you! Good luck in the Daytona 500 tomorrow Danica. You are very attractive as well.

Samuel L. Jackson Voted for Obama Because He Is Black

Samuel L. Jackson: ‘I Voted for Barack Because He Was Black’
The Blaze – Sat, Feb 11, 2012
Samuel L. Jackson only voted for President Barack Obama because of the color of his skin, the Hollywood actor revealed in a profanity-laced interview in the March issue of Ebony magazine.
“I voted for Barack because he was black. ’Cuz that’s why other folks vote for other people — because they look like them,” Jackson said. "That’s American politics, pure and simple. [Obama’s] message didn’t mean sh-t to me. In the end, he’s a politician. I just hoped he would do some of what he said he was gonna do.
According to the New York Post, the "Pulp Fiction" legend repeatedly dropped the N-word during his cover story interview.
“When it comes down to it, they wouldn’t have elected a [bleep]," Jackson said. "Because, what’s a [bleep]? A [bleep] is scary. Obama ain’t scary at all. [Bleeps] don’t have beers at the White House. [Bleeps] don’t let some white dude, while you in the middle of a speech, call [him] a liar" -- an apparent reference to Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst during Obama's health care address to a joint session of Congress in 2009.
Jackson continued, "A [bleep] would have stopped the meeting right there and said, ‘Who the [bleep] said that?’ I hope Obama gets scary in the next four years, ’cuz he ain’t gotta worry about getting re-elected.”
Defending his repeated use of the racial epithet, Jackson said it "became a part of my vocabulary when I was born."
"Because it was used on me in my house, often . . . I know the word [bleep] as an admonishment, an endearment, a criticism and an invective. So I use it; I don’t run from it. I don’t have an issue with it or who says it. I always put it in the context of how it was used on me," he said.
Jackson previously made political headlines in October, when he agreed with fellow actor Morgan Freeman's assessment that the Tea Party was "racist."
“It’s pretty obvious what they are,” Jackson said in an interview with New York Magazine. “The division of the country is not about the government having too much power. I think everything right now is geared toward getting that guy out of office, whatever that means.”
Jackson continued, “It’s not politics. It is not economics. It all boils down to pretty much to race. It is a shame.”
MTW-
The only shame in this case is your own ignorance, Mr. Jackson. To think I like(d?) your work, and now, find that you really do hate white people. That, my good man, IS the problem. We are all the same race dumbass. I do not have a problem with any other human being’s color. Obviously, you do. One more thing Mr. (blank), you seem not to use the “N” word in ANY context; it soumds an awful lot like an adjective, more than a noun to me, but hey, I am just a writer. What do I know? If I was the President, and someone called me out, you would see one SCARY Cracker, unless I was wrong. There are those amongst us who do the right thing and admit when they are wrong. There is no such thing as “racism”, you over paid, under brained bigot. Got to go now, and destroy all of the DVDs I have with you in them. Just kidding, I do not have a single one of your movies in my collection. God bless you Sammy! Sorry Barrack is not a thug. Do you really think we need a thug, or a man in the office who is highly respected and has a pair, rather than a liar? Calling a man out for doing what he is doing wrong used to get some respect from people, not some “racial” divide some try to perpetuate. I still cannot figure out if you are happy with Obama. Terrible article, and I would never interview you if you paid me. Well, if you pay me. Obama is half white you know.

Obama Shows His Strength By Apologizing- WEAK

Koran Burning at U.S. Base Sparks Afghan Protests
By ALEEM AGHA and NICK SCHIFRIN | ABC News – Tue, Feb 21, 2012
Supporters of the Jamiat Talba-e-Arabia group chant slogans while burning a U.S flag …

Troops on the U.S.'s largest base in Afghanistan have inadvertently burned Korans and other religious materials, triggering angry protests and fears of even larger demonstrations as news of the burning spreads.
The books were mistakenly thrown out with the trash at Bagram Air Field north of Kabul and were on a burn pile Monday night before Afghan laborers intervened around 11:00 p.m., according to NATO and Afghan officials.
The workers doused the flames with their jackets and mineral water before marching out of Bagram in a fury, carrying with them the charred remains, according to Sabir Safar, secretary of the provincial council of Parwan, the province where Bagram is located.
By the morning, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside of Bagram and on the outskirts of Kabul. Some shot into the air, some threw rocks at the Bagram gate, and others yelled, "Die, die foreigners." Many of them were the same people who work with foreign troops inside the base. At one point, apparently worried that the base would be stormed, guards at the base fired rubber bullets into the crowd, according to the military.
"They should leave Afghanistan rather than disrespecting our religion, our faith," Mohammad Hakim told the Associated Press outside of Bagram. "They have to leave and if next time they disrespect our religion, we will defend our holy Koran, religion and faith until the last drop of blood has left in our body."
There is perhaps no action that enrages Afghans more than foreigners' mistreating the Koran. It taps into widespread doubt of whether Americans respect Islam as well as deep frustration that, more than 10 years after the Taliban were overthrown, violence remains widespread. Korans are supposed to be buried or released into a flowing river if they need to be disposed.
NATO officials scrambled furiously to contain the fallout, tweeting and emailing reporters not long after the first protests began. Gen. John Allen, the commander of all foreign forces in Afghanistan, released a statement, then a video statement, then gave an interview to NATO television. In his and in all NATO officials' communication today, each emphasized that the burning was unintentional.
"Those materials were inadvertently given to troops for disposition and that disposition was to burn the materials. It was not a decision that was made because they were religious materials," Allen told NATO TV. "It was not a decision that was made with respect to the faith of Islam. It was a mistake, it was an error. The moment we found out about it we immediately stopped and we intervened."
Allen launched an investigation and promised to take steps that the same incident would not be repeated.
"This is not who we are. These are very, very isolated incidents," Allen said. "We've been dying alongside the Afghans for a long time because we believe in them, we believe in their country, we want to have every opportunity to give them a bright future."
In the morning, U.S. officials on Bagram escorted local Afghan elders to the site of the burning. Ahmad Zaki Zahed, the chief of the provincial council, said 60 to 70 books had been recovered from the fire, including Korans that were once used by detainees at the base.
"Some were all burned. Some were half-burned," Zahed told the Associated Press.
The protesters' fury was immediate, but Afghan officials eventually calmed them down by the afternoon. They demanded to see President Hamid Karzai and threatened to resume demonstrations.
Previous reports of Koran burning have led to deadly protests in Afghanistan. In April, 2011, after a fringe protester burned a Koran, a mob in a usually peaceful northern city stormed the United Nations compound and killed at least seven foreigners. In May, 2005, Afghan police killed at least four demonstrators angry over a report that an American interrogator in Guantanamo Bay prison flushed a Koran down a toilet.
While today's reaction was quick and furious, the protests might have been larger if it wasn't snowing and if it had happened at a different time. Many Afghans did not know about the burning because it occurred late last night and news is generally consumed during television newscasts in the evenings, at home. Many Afghans and Westerners fear that protests could get larger Wednesday and the rest of the week.
"Past demonstrations in Afghanistan have escalated into violent attacks on Western targets of opportunity," the U.S. embassy said in statement known as a Warden Message, sent to Americans living in Afghanistan. "U.S. citizens in Afghanistan should remain vigilant and avoid areas where Westerners congregate. Avoid large public gatherings or demonstrations. Do not discuss travel plans or other personal matters with strangers, or in public."
Far to the south, in an area where a surge of U.S. troops has removed many Taliban safehavens, insurgents reminded the local population that they still held considerable sway.
In the Washer district of Helmand, insurgents beheaded four people they accused of spying for the U.S., according to the Helmand governor's spokesman. The Taliban denied any involvement in the executions, claiming they were carried out by Western intelligence officials to bring the Taliban a bad name.

MTW-
They kill, indiscriminately, and now they are upset by any single thing they can find us doing. Forget about the burning of OUR Flags? The effigies of OUR Presidents burned? Muslim infadels. The beheadings perpetrated by these religious fanatics, over the burning of a blasphemous bastardization of the Bible, and a very evil religion, Islam. Books sometimes get burned, as do many things which should not. A human life is not a book, it cannot be reprinted. We need to leave these people to their killing of each other in the same Jihady way they do. If a group of human beings does not even get along with the others in their culture, how in God’s name can we be expected to be welcome simply setting foot on their soil? But, see next how our fearless leader kisses the ass of our enemies. I say it is Koran. (auto capitalized)

Obama sends letter of apology to Afghan president
By AMIR SHAH and PATRICK QUINN | Associated Press –2-23-2012
Afghan security forces arrive at the scene of an anti-U.S. demonstration at a NATO …
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Afghan president's office says it has received a letter from President
Barack Obama formally apologizing for the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.
The statement from President Hamid Karzai's office says the U.S. ambassador delivered the letter on Thursday.
In the letter, which is quoted in the statement, Obama expresses his "deep regret for the reported incident" and offers his "sincere apologies."
According to the statement, Obama wrote: "The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible."
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan official says two protesters have died in an exchange of gunfire during a riot outside an American base in eastern Afghanistan that also wounded two NATO troops.
The deaths raise to five the number of Afghans killed around the country during Thursday's protests over this week's Quran burnings at a U.S. base.
Governor Haji Mohammad Hassan says NATO and Afghan troops were firing in the air to disperse hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the base in Khogyani district in eastern Nangahar province.
Hassan says during the rioting, one man in an Afghan army uniform shot at NATO troops and seriously wounded two of them.
Earlier, Afghan police shot and killed three protesters during two demonstrations in the north and south of the country.

MTW-
Get the Hell out of there! They will kill over a book. A book that says inside of it that killing is wrong. If Obama is re-elected, we will be there forever, while at the same time, we do not need their oil. We have our own resources; if we could get the tree huggers to shut up the world might be a better place. Some people are, and always will be intolerant of others. “Can’t we all just get along?” Rodney King. Sorry Rodney, but those hellbound scumbags murdered two of OUR SOLDIERS on the day OUR President is apologizing. Disgraceful to have such a weak leader.

Toothbrushes

The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship.
Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success."
"Very good," said the teacher.
Little Jenny was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events."
"Very good, Jenny," said the teacher.
Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath
... Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk.
"$2,467" he said.
"$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling"
"Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.
"Toothbrushes," echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?"
"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a Dip & Chip stand, I gave everybody who walked by a free sample."
They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog crap!"
Then I would say, "It is dog crap. Want to buy a toothbrush? I used the President Obama method of giving you something sh!tty, but looks good, for free, and then making you pay to get the bad taste out of your mouth”. The teacher was speechless.
Little Johnny got 5 stars for his efforts, bless his heart.

Anchor Baby Kids Denied Food Stamps In 'Bama

American kids denied food stamps in Alabama under immigration law
By Liz Goodwin
National Affairs Reporter
The Lookout – Tue, Feb 7, 2012
There were protesters outside the Alabama statehouse in November.
Some U.S.-born children with parents who are illegal immigrants have been denied food stamps under Alabama's new immigration law, Southern Poverty Law Center President Richard Cohen told Yahoo News on Monday.
Five people have called into the group's Alabama hotline to say they were denied food stamps because they couldn't prove they were legal residents, even though the food stamps are for their children, who are citizens.
Cohen says the civil rights group, which has already filed two lawsuits against Alabama over the law, will most likely bring another suit over the denied food stamps.
The law makes it a felony for a government employee to engage in "business transactions" with illegal immigrants, which some government employees have interpreted very broadly. Illegal immigrants have been told they can't pay their utility bills or even their taxes because it would count as a "transaction" with the government, according to Cohen.
Barry Spear, a spokesman for Alabama's Department of Human Services, said in an email to Yahoo News that it is not the agency's policy to demand proof of citizenship from the guardians of Americans who need food stamps. "We are unaware of any violations of the policy," Spear said.
Several parts of the law have been temporarily blocked pending the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on whether the law is constitutional or not. But the "business transaction" prohibition, as well as a mandate for local police to ask for proof of legal status during stops, were left to stand. Some Republican lawmakers say they want to amend the law this year, while a coalition of Democrats is trying to repeal it entirely.
Illegal immigrants are prohibited from accessing most welfare benefits, including food stamps, non-emergency Medicaid and cash welfare programs. Their children, if born in America, can access welfare programs as citizens. (The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that about 4.5 million American citizens under 18 years old have at least one undocumented parent.)
Last month, Kansas kicked more than 1,000 mixed-status families off its food stamp program when it joined three other states in adopting a stricter food stamp eligibility policy. A low-income family of five made up of two undocumented parents and three citizen children now has to show that its income is close to the poverty level for a family of three--not a family of five--in order to access food stamps. This is intended to prevent illegal immigrants from benefiting from food stamps, but immigration advocates say it will leave citizen kids hungry.
The Justice Department has sued Arizona, Alabama, South Carolina and Utah over laws that crack down on illegal immigrants, saying they interfere with the federal government's control over immigration. The Supreme Court will hear arguments over Arizona's SB1070 beginning on April 25.

MTW-
This is so crazy- the way I like it. They come here and have “anchor” babies, and are now upset that they do not receive benefits? This Country is not a charity. This is not UNICEF. If the entire country adopted a stronger stance, and used a similar policy, maybe we could put an end to the enormous amount of taxpayer money which is wasted on the illegals that come here and have these babies so that they can stay. I disagree with these babies-who have illegal aliens as parents, being allowed to receive ANY benefits awarded, as if the parents had ever paid one single cent in taxes. I do not think our immigration laws are correct. Our President has only one American parent. Good enough, as long as he was born here. Who knows? This is not the 20th century, there are not any more ships filled with immigrants-filling out PAPERWORK- at Ellis Island. Now, they sneak in and pay no taxes and expect benefits. Thus, with the colossal drain on our economy these aliens have put forth upon us, maybe the law should be changed to eliminate “anchor” babies, by saying the child is not an American citizen unless at least one of the child’s parents is in fact a legal citizen, at least by the time of the actual birth. It sounds so simple to me, but we all know that Congress and the President- any Congress, any President- never seem to do anything to help us in the easiest way possible. What do you expect from a slew of former attorneys? They started their professional careers in that adversarial process became quite adept at it, and merely continue their desire to oppose the other side, be it Democrat or Republican, just or unjust. I think Shakespeare put it best in Henry VI, part 2, act 4, scene 2, when Dick, a member of the gang of Jack Cade, pretender to the throne, said “The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers”. Of course, as a Christian, I believe killing is wrong, but Shakespeare had a point, showing in several plays his disdain for lawyers. They seem to do their job, whether it stands in the way of justice, or not. Just doing their job, is no different than saying “I was only following orders”, even when you know they are wrong, and innocent people are made to suffer. Yeah, you know it. I am certain that in World War II, in Europe, there were many Nazi SS prison guards whom have said that they were simply “following orders” or doing their jobs, as they proceeded to murder millions of people and put them in ovens. Do you think that they were doing what was just? Or just doing their job? If they did not, I am sure they too, would be killed. Their boss WAS insane. What is the excuse of the average attorney these days? They certainly are not marked for death if they insist on doing the right thing; it is only MONEY that drives them, certainly not JUSTICE! For God’s sake, there is a group of Law School graduates suing their own schools, because they cannot find jobs as attorneys. How is it the school’s fault that they decided to become lawyers? Potential future politicians. The single worst problem we have other than the illegals. Read the post following this one and decide.

Young Lawyers Suing

A Bunch of Young Lawyers are Suing Their Law Schools Because They Don't Have Jobs
By Vivian Giang | Business Insider – Thu, Feb 16, 2012
A bunch of recently graduated and unemployed lawyers are suing their law schools for false hope.
A total of 75 alumni have filed at least 15 class-action lawsuits across the country, accusing their law schools of inflating employment and salary data to attract prospective students.
The New York Daily News reported that graduates from the Brooklyn Law School accuse the school of fraud, saying that “attending Brooklyn Law and forking nearly $150,000 in tuition payments is a terrible investment."
The school's Web site reported employment rates of 88 to 98 percent within nine months of graduation, but the students allege these figures included students who had part-time or temporary work unrelated to the legal field, according to the Daily News.
Recent graduates from New York Law School filed a $200 million class action suit in damages for fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and violations of business law.
Financial writer Flexo at Consumerism Commentary says that the goal of the lawsuits seem not to merely receive compensation, but to " effect systemic change in the education industry and associations that accredit law schools, like the American Bar Association."
He also says it'll be hard for the students to win their case, since there are many "factors that contribute to unemployment, including the overall economy, local job markets, and the effort, skills, and self-marketability of each alumnus."

MTW-
See what I mean? These are potential politicians everybody, and they already have the whole “entitlement” thing going and have yet to get a job! I suppose we do not need ANY more lawyers, since we are not even made aware of some new laws until we break one, and we are told ignorance of the law is not an excuse. (as if we were all expected to have gone to law school) Do they not know that there are more people in law school than there are practicing attorneys?

One Minute Each Night

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT
This is the most uncertain election we as Christians have ever faced, and
from the looks of the polls, the Christians aren't voting Christian values. We
all need to be on our knees. Do you believe we can take God at His word? Call
upon His name, then stand back and watch His wonders unfold. This scripture gives
us, as Christians, ownership of this land and the ability to call upon God to
heal it. I challenge you to do that. We have never been more desperate than now
for God to heal our land. This election is the scariest I remember in my
lifetime. 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people, which are called by my name shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their
land.” During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill, who organized a group
of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for
one minute, to collectively pray for the safety of England , its people and
peace. This had an amazing effect, as bombing stopped. There is now a group of
people organizing the same thing here in America. The United States of America, and
our citizens, need prayer more than ever!!! If you would like to participate,
each evening at 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time (8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM
Pacific), stop whatever you're doing, and spend one minute praying for the safety of
the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, the
upcoming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our
land, and that Christianity will grow in the U.S. If you know anyone who would like
to participate, please pass this along. Someone said if people really
understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Thank you.
Please pass this on to anyone who you think will want to join us.
God Bless You!!!

OUR CHILDREN ARE IN DANGER

3 New Dangerous Drug Habits in Teens
By Allison Becker | LiveScience.com – 2-18-2-012
It's well-known that teens experiment with illegal substances such as alcohol and marijuana. But recently, children and teens have turned their attention to substances found at home or local convenience stores. They're abusing parents' prescription painkillers, energy drinks and computer cleaners.
Here are three new drug trends among kids:
Energy drinks in elementary school
In recent years, drinks that combine alcohol with caffeine, such as Four Loko, have been blamed for the deaths of teens and college students. But a new epidemic involves younger children: elementary school students are drinking highly caffeinated energy drinks to catch a buzz. Even without alcohol, these drinks are dangerous to kids' health.
"Energy drinks are gateway for elementary school kids," said Mike Gimbel, a national substance abuse educator. "They drink it like it's water. Nurses have kids coming in with heart palpitations."
Gimbel said he has also observed a growing fascination among elementary school students with caffeinated gel strips that you place on the tongue, such as ones made by the brand Sheets.
"One strip is equal to a cup of coffee, but kids are putting five or six in their mouth at once," he said. "You can overdose on caffeine by taking three or four."
Overconsumption of caffeine, especially in young children who have smaller bodies, can cause seizures, strokes or even sudden death, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Huffing Dust-Off
Huffing, or inhaling household products, is not a new phenomenon. But experts have started to see an increase in teens huffing the computer cleaner called Dust-Off, a trend that started a few years ago.
Dust-Off, sold at office supply stores, can be inhaled to produce a high lasting a few seconds to a few minutes.
"One of the attractions is that it can be felt almost immediately," said Harvey Weiss, executive director of the National Inhalant Prevention Coalition. "You don't have to wait for something to happen."
Inhalants can cause nausea, nosebleeds, impaired coordination and, in some cases, death.
According to a study from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in 2010, about 2 million kids ages 12 to 17 had tried inhalants, the most popular being glue, shoe polish or toluene, a solvent.
Weiss said that parents should look to see if their children have a "sudden drop in grades, a rash around mouth or nose, a change in friends, weight loss or an odor of products on their breath."
Thirty-seven states currently regulate the sale of inhalants to minors, but many of these products are easily accessible within the home, he said.
"I hear from parents, especially those who have lost children, that they were aware of inhalants, but never imagined their kids would do them, so it wasn't discussed," Weiss said.
Pharm parties
At age 14, Brittany Gaydosh, walked into a New Year's Eve party at a friend's house, drank a couple of shots of Bacardi 151 rum, and made her way to a Ziploc bag filled with pills.
"There were Ecstasy, Xanax, Percocets, Valium and other pills in the bag that night," Gaydosh said. "I took four Ecstasy pills and a Xanax."
Throughout her teenage years, Gaydosh attended at least 20 parties like this, the now 23-year-old said. She would take handfuls of pills, wash some down with alcohol, and save the rest for later. And she's not alone. According to experts, such parties, known as "Skittles parties" (because of the brightly colored pills) or "pharm parties," have rapidly gained popularity among teens.
"At a lot of the parties, they just throw the pills on the table," Gaydosh said. "It's like candy that you can take home with you."
Teens are taking painkillers, mainly highly addictive opioids such as OxyContin and Vicodin, from medicine cabinets in their own homes, said Dr. Petros Levounis, director of the Addiction Institute of New York in Manhattan.
"They're getting these prescription pills from parents or grandparents," Levounis said. "Say I go to the dentist for a tooth extraction and I get 30 painkillers and maybe take one. My granddaughter could go into my medicine cabinet without me knowing and bring the rest of the pills to a party."
A recent report from researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that each year, more people die from prescription painkiller overdoses than from heroin and cocaine overdoses combined.
"Addiction to prescription opioids has become the most important problem we face," Levounis said.
Pass it on: Many teens are getting dangerous highs from drugs easily found in stores or homes.

MTW-
This has been going on for years everybody. Now they are going to make pure form of hydrocodone, a drug that kills in its current form. Wait until people start getting their hands on that. Our young people are in so much danger with these practices; ADULTS, KEEP TRACK OF YOUR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS!

Shock: Obama Has A Good Idea

Obama wants cheaper pennies and nickels
By Chris Isidore | CNNMoney.com – Wed, Feb 15, 2012
The U.S. Mint is facing a problem -- especially during these penny-pinching times. It turns out it costs more to make pennies and nickels than the coins are worth.
And because of that, the Obama administration this week asked Congress for permission to change the mix of metal that goes to make pennies and nickels, an expensive recipe that has remained unchanged for more than 30 years.
To be precise, it cost 2.4 cents to make one penny in 2011 and about 11.2 cents for each nickel.
Given the number of coins that the mint produces -- 4.3 billion pennies and 914 million nickels last year alone, those costs add up pretty quickly: a little more than $100 million for each coin.
But even though Treasury has been studying new metals since 2010, it has yet to come up with a workable mix that would definitely be cheaper, and it has no details yet as to what metals should be used or how much it would save to do so.
Even if a cheaper metal can be used, it might not take the cost of a penny down to less than a penny.
Just the administrative cost of minting 4.3 billion pennies costs almost a half-cent per coin by itself, leaving precious little room to make a penny for less than a cent, no matter the raw material used.
The raw material cost of the metals used in a current penny is only about 0.6 cents per coin, according to prices quoted on the London Metal Exchange, and a breakdown of a penny's composition from the mint. The mint paid 1.1 cents on average for the metal used in a penny in 2011, but that is the cost of ready-to-stamp blanks from the supplier, not raw material traded on commodity markets.
Funny money? 11 local currencies
There have been times in recent years when a run-up in zinc and copper prices has taken the raw material value of a penny above one cent.
That's the case for a nickel today. Its more expensive metal mix means the raw materials in each are worth almost 6 cents per coin, based on current market prices. (States eye silver and gold currencies)
Despite popular belief, since 1982 pennies have only been copper plated, not copper through and through. Much less expensive zinc makes up 97.5% of the mass of a penny, the rest is a copper coating.
Nickels actually have much more copper in them -- 75% copper and 25% nickel, the same mix it has always had.
The mint did make steel pennies for one year -- in 1943 -- when copper was needed for the war effort. And steel might be a cheaper alternative this time. Steel is roughly one-quarter the price of zinc on the London Metal Exchange.
Treasury had already made a cost-saving move in December when it stopped making dollar coins.
With 1.4 billion surplus presidential dollar coins sitting in bank vaults waiting to be circulated, and American consumers showing little appetite to start using the coins, Treasury estimates the halt in production of the coins will save about $50 million a year.
Check commodity prices
Treasury spokesman Matt Anderson said Treasury has the authority to stop making the dollar coins on its own, but it can't change the mix of metals in pennies without permission.
As for the suggestion of some that the penny be abandoned altogether, Anderson said only "that is not a proposal we have put forward."

MTW-
This has to be the first intelligent idea Obama has come up with; naturally, I am sure someone had to have informed him of this ignorant practice. As a numismatist for many years, I have been aware of this problem for some time, and I never was in an understanding position as to why the government did not know that they had this problem. If all of the copper pennies (pre-1982) were to be removed from circulation and used for their value in the copper commodity’s actual value, they might be able to offset some of these moronic costs to simply make pennies now, which are merely plated. Eliminate them, or just use steel. As for nickels, as it were, people believe the word nickel means 5 cents. So, why actually use the specified nickel alloy? I am sure it is worth 5 cents no matter what material is used to make them. Why not use steel for both? As long as their worth is unaffected, what is the difference? Does anybody in Washington know how to actually do any savings of cost when producing not only coinage, but….oh, everything? Remember, the deficit of over 4 trillion is owed by the Government to intragovernmental agencies- Social Security, USPS, FEMA, and etcetera. (50 cent stamp coming soon)We already paid into these institutions for generations, but the money has been appropriated without our knowledge, and any apparent oversight. Now we are expected to pay this deficit down, when we did not spend the money in the first place. They cannot even make money without losing money in the process. Politicians doing what they do. I am sure that there are more areas in Government costs which may also be shown to be, well, the same as being upside down in a mortgage. I hope they continue to search for savings. That debt is mostly monies given to aid other countries, such as Pakistan, billions, while they hid bin-Laden from us. I say we go over there and collect it. I am sure they are not the only ones we have simply handed large sums of money to. Money that should be going to help Americans.

Advice From Bill Gates

Good advice:
~ Bill Gates ~
This should be posted in every school or kid's bedroom.
Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this!
Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about
eleven (11) things they did not and will not learn in school.
He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings
created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and
how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something
BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school.
You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping:
They called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault,
so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring
as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes and listening to you
talk about how cool you thought you were
So before you save the rain forest
from the parasites of your parent's generation,
try delousing the closet in your own room..
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades
and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
*This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters.
You don't get summers off and very few employers
are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF.
*Do that on your own time.
Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life.
In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds.
Chances are you'll end up working for one..

If you can read this... Thank a Teacher.
If you can read this in English... Thank a Soldier!
And for life and everything else you have... Thank God!!
Now... think about this and smile if you agree and please pass this on...
If you don't agree, go stick your head in the sand and take a deep breath!

MTW-
I suppose I like what Bill Gates had to say. Odd, I never really liked him until I read this.

Letter By A Florida Teacher

A TEACHER SPEAKS OUT
This is a Subject close to my heart. Do you know that we have adult students at the school where I teach who are NOT U.S. Citizens and who get the PELL Grant, which is a federal grant (no payback required) plus other federal grants to go to school? One student from the Dominican Republic told me that she didn't want me to find a job for her after she finished my program, because she was getting housing from our housing department and she was getting a PELL Grant which paid for her total tuition and books, plus money left over.
She was looking into WAIT which gives students a CREDIT CARD for gas to come to school, and into CARIBE which is a special program (check it out - I did) for Immigrants and it pays for child care and all sorts of needs while they go to school or training. The one student I just mentioned told me she was not going to be a U.S. Citizen because she plans to return
to the Dominican Republic someday and that she 'loves HER country.'
I asked her If she felt guilty taking what the U.S. Is giving her and then not even bothering to become a citizen and she told me that it doesn't bother her, because that is what the money is there for!
I asked the CARIBE administration about their program and if you ARE a U.S. Citizen, you don't qualify for their program. And all the while, I am working a full day, my son-in-law works more than 60 hours a week, and everyone in my family works and pays for our education.
Something is wrong here. I am sorry, but after hearing that they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough. That's a real slap in the face. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written.
The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close.
I don't care whether this offends someone or not but this is MY COUNTRY.
IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP -- please pass this along. I am not against immigration -- I just expect immigrants to come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the Past -- and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
PART OF THE PROBLEM - Think about this: If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone - YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM! It is time for America to speak up. If you agree -- pass this along, If you don't agree -- delete It!
MTW-
Consider it passed on! I need not say anything else.

A German's View of Islam

A very good rational and non-political article! Should be labeled World View and not just German view!
This is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read.
His references to past history are accurate and clear.
Not long, easy to understand, and well worth the read.
The author of this email is said to be Dr. Emanuel Tanay, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist.

A German's View on Islam
A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.
'Very few people were true Nazis,' he said, 'but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care.
I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.'
We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or commit honor killings. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.
The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 40 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.
And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were 'peace loving'?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:
• Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
• Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.
• Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.
• As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts--the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

My Thoughts On The Current Tenor Of Politics

Analysis: Obama pitches middle while GOP eyes base
By CHARLES BABINGTON | Associated Press – 2-12-2012
WASHINGTON (AP) — The dustup over contraception underscored President Barack Obama's political edge in working to attract independent voters without alienating his Democratic base. His Republican rivals are forced to keep emphasizing their conservative credentials to attract the right-leaning activists who dominate the nominating contests.
It's a dynamic that usually plays out when a president seeks re-election without a primary challenger, and the other party fights to determine its nominee.
Obama already is in general-election mode, with the luxury of courting voters who don't ascribe to a political party. The eventual Republican nominee is moving to the right and probably will have to edge back toward the center in the fall. The farther he must go to the fringe to win the nod, however, the tougher his task.
The difference was clear Friday, at events two miles apart in Washington.
At the White House, Obama made a carefully calibrated concession to Catholics angered by his decision to require religious-affiliated employers, including Catholic hospitals and colleges, to cover birth control in their health insurance plans. The president tweaked the rule Friday. He said insurance companies would provide contraceptive benefits directly to employees, technically leaving employers out of the transaction.
White House and Obama campaign officials were relieved by the initial reaction.
Groups such as Planned Parenthood, which privately had urged no changes, praised the move. More important, so did the influential Catholic Health Association of the United States, whose criticism of the original rule spelled trouble for Obama's team.
At the same time across town, three of the four GOP presidential candidates appeared separately at the Conservative Political Action Conference, a major annual gathering of activists on the political right. Each tried to out-do the other in proclaiming conservative fealty.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum criticized Obama's contraception policy. They painted themselves as conservative crusaders on a range of issues.
Romney drew snickers by saying he was a "severely conservative governor."
Gingrich said the Obama administration "is waging war on religion."
Santorum, who built much of his national profile by fighting legalized abortion, said Obama is "telling the Catholic Church that they are forced to pay for things that are against their basic tenets and teachings."
"It's not about contraception," he said. "It's about economic liberty. It's about freedom of speech. It's about freedom of religion."
Democrats hope independent voters will see it differently. Americans, including Catholics, overwhelmingly embrace birth control. Obama's goal was to reframe his policy as a matter of equal access to preventive health care, not a quarrel about religious or economic rights.
"I think the president ended up looking like the responsible person in the room," said Lanae Erickson of the Democratic-leaning group Third Way, which has studied independent voting trends. "The Republican primary candidates went way out on a limb and will alienate themselves with independent voters," she said.
The CPAC speeches were standard fare for such conservative gatherings, and they may not matter much in November. But Democrats will try to use the remarks to portray the eventual GOP nominee as out of touch with middle America.
For now, they're focusing mainly on Romney, who won Saturday's straw poll at CPAC and the Maine GOP caucuses.
"Mitt Romney and the rest may think that catering to the tea party set and Rush Limbaugh is the only way to win the nomination, but the eventual nominee is going to pay a huge price for that approach with swing voters in the fall," said Brad Woodhouse, spokesman for the Democratic National Committee."
Campaign strategists endlessly debate the right balance between pursuing independents versus firing up the party base. Karl Rove broke new ground in 2004 by placing considerably more emphasis on the Republican base, which propelled President George W. Bush to a second term.
Obama's 2008 victory, however, was built on the more traditional formula of focusing extensively on independent voters while doing as much as possible to keep his party's liberal activists energized. Since then, Obama has struggled to overcome their disappointment.
The shift on the Catholic-contraception issue appears modest enough to cause few ripples. But Obama infuriated some liberal groups by dropping plans to tighten ozone restrictions and to have a government-run health insurance provider.
Erickson said Obama can ill afford to appease liberals with left-leaning moves that would alienate independents. As public disenchantment with Congress has soared in the past few years, she said, the ranks of independents have swelled at the Democratic and Republican parties' expense.
"This year is going to have the highest independent turnout in modern political history," Erickson said.
The GOP primary contest shows no sign of wrapping up soon.
The longer it goes on, the more time Obama has to make overtures to independents who, as Erickson put it, "will be the kingmakers in this election."

An AP News Analysis
MTW-
One says it is black, the other says white, never any in between. Now, Obama (by the way, his name AUTOMATICALLY capitalizes itself on Microsoft Word 2010) is starting to lurk into the forbidden shades of grey. How ironic. I do not believe anything either side says to get themselves elected. Why should i? We all know how Obama touted change. We sure did get it, but not the direction he promised. Bottom line, STOP MESSING WITH THE CONSTITUTION YOU GIANT BAG OF WASHINGTON @#$S! All 545 of you. Some of us still wish this to be a FREE country. The problem is with the POLITICIANS. Where has all of our debt really come from, and why does the White House keep telling Israel not to attack Iran? It would save us some money, would it not? I guarantee they will do an exceptional job as well. I hope they do. The only thing getting done here is pandering to what they think we want to hear.

Another's View of Social Security

SUBJECT: Social Security-An e-mail I received
Sadly interesting ...
Have you noticed, your Social Security check is now referred to as a "Federal benefit payment"? I'll be part of the one percent, to forward this, our government gets away with way too much in all areas of our lives, while they live lavishly on their grossly overpaid incomes! KEEP passing THIS AROUND UNTIL EVERY ONE HAS READ IT..... SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THIS CALCULATION IS THEY FORGOT TO FIGURE IN THE PEOPLE WHO DIED BEFORE THEY COLLECTED THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY!!!! WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO? This was sent to me, I am forwarding it because it does touch a nerve in me. Remember, not only did you contribute to Social Security but your employer did too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500.If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the government pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you'd have $892,919.98.If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60
per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month. The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madhoff ever had. Entitlement my foot, I paid cash for my social security insurance!!!! Just because they borrowed the money from the fund - which was promised never to happen - and never paid it back, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!Congressional benefits ---- free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement entitlements? We're "broke" and can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless. In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey . And now Pakistan ......home of bin Laden.
Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed
income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries! They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when it's time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place? Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries. Sad isn't it?
99% of people won't have the guts to forward this.
MTW- I do.

Charley Reese's Final Column

A MUST READ.....Charley Reese's Final Column
Interesting to say the least.
Charley Reese's final column for the Orlando Sentinel...

He has been a journalist for 49 years.
He is retiring and this is HIS LAST COLUMN.
Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.
This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!
545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.
What you do with this article now that you have read it... is up to you.
This might be funny if it weren't so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,

Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid..
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply

So Help Me God

Sent: Friday, February 3, 2012 12:30 PM
Subject: So help me, God
This IS a prayer.
This is by a daughter of a murdered couple in Raytown, MO, who had a Bible
and Bookstore on 63rd street. She says:
When I had to testify at the murder trial a week ago, I was asked to raise
my right hand... The bailiff started out "Do you swear to tell the truth,
the whole truth and nothing but the truth?"
I stood there and waited but she said nothing more. Then she said "Do you?"
I was so stunned I blurted out "What happened to "so help me God?"
She came back with "Do you?" I replied yes, but I was perplexed.
Then the judge said. "You can say that if you want to."
I stopped, raised my right hand again, and finished with "So help me God!"
I told my son and daughter that when it came time for them to testify, they
should do the same.
I don't know what can be done about it, but it's time for us to step up and
DO something.
NBC this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highest number
of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the
percentage was the same as this:
86% to keep the words, 14% against.. That is a pretty 'commanding' public
response.
I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't.
Now it is your turn. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.
Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess
about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Why is the world catering to this 14%?
If you agree, pass this on, if not, simply delete.....
In God We Trust
If You Choose To Delete
Then YOU Are Part Of The Problem!
Me? I'm Passing It On.
This problem seems to get worse daily.
I for one, must "trust in God", I sure can't trust the Politicians
Michael T. Wayne-
I received this as an e-mail. I suppose you cannot delete this; that is why I put it here.

WRITTEN BT A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE

GOOD THOUGHTS HERE!
WRITTEN BY A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE
This was written by a 21 year old female who gets it. It's her future
she's worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big
government state that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are
just common sense in her opinion.
This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco, TX, Nov 18, 2011
PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash
for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,
blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use
drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair.
Your “home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be
inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your
own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week
or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways
of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.
We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of
the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you
say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self- esteem," consider
that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing
absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self- esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at
least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes,
that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will
voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't
welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
Now, if you have the guts - PASS IT ON...

Michael T. Wayne-
Of course I have the guts, young lady. I admire your conviction.

I Just Cannot Bear It

Message flagged Tuesday, February 7, 2012 9:03 AM
I think the whole greenhouse thing is just a diversion so we won't notice this:
This is a very sad story about a bear. Everybody should heed the warnings not to feed wildlife because they become dependent and don't forage for themselves any longer. It is such a tragedy to see what has been done to our country's wildlife! The photo below captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect U.S. wildlife.

Animals that formerly were self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democrat Party. They have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance. This photo is of a black bear in Montana turned Democrat. He's nicknamed Bearack Acorn Obearma. It is believed that he has become a campground organizer.

Michael T. Wayne-
I just had to share this e-mail with you all. I am still laughing.

Clint Eastwood's Superbowl Ad

Clint Eastwood on Super Bowl Ad: I'm Not Obama's Puppet!
By Tim Kenneally | The Wrap – 2-6-2012

Clint Eastwood is setting the record straight about his improbably controversial Chrysler ad that aired on Sunday's Super Bowl.
The "Gran Torino" director went on the defensive Monday, dismissing suggestions that the ad is a partisan love letter to President Obama.
Speaking to Ron Mitchell, a producer at Fox news Channel's "The O"Reilly Factor," Eastwood asserted, "I am certainly not politically affiliated with Mr. Obama. It was meant to be a message ... just about job growth and the spirit of America. I think all politicians will agree with it."
Eastwood, who served as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, in the 1980s, added that he is "not supporting any politician at this time" but noted that, if Obama or any other politician "want to run with the spirit of that ad, go for it."
In the ad -- dubbed "Halftime in America" -- Eastwood extols the resiliency of the American spirit -- as exemplified by the auto industry's efforts to bounce back from its financial woes.
“This country can't be knocked out with one punch, we get right back up again," Eastwood growls in the ad.
This was somehow interpreted by some -- notably among them, former Bush administration senior adviser Karl Rove -- as a show of support for President Barack Obama and the auto-industry bailout.
Declaring himself "offended" by the ad during a Fox News segment, Rove opined that the ad was "a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics."
“I was, frankly, offended by it,” Rove said. “I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising and the best-wishes of the management which is benefited by getting a bunch of our money that they'll never pay back.”
Rove also suggested that Chrysler, et al, "feel the need to do something to repay their political patrons."
Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com Eastwood's manager, Leonard Hirshan, was also dismissive of Rove and company's claim, telling New York magazine, "He rewrote it to make it suit his needs ... People have to understand that what he was doing was saying to America, ‘Get yourselves together – all of you – and make this a second half.' It's not a political thing.”
Michael T Wayne-
I love Clint Eastwood. He is a very intelligent, strong man. Not afraid to speak his mind. I have admired him for years. Does anyone out there really care what Karl Rove has to say? I do not. Great commercial Mr. Eastwood, and Thank You from a grateful Nation for serving in the Korean War (Army). These days in Hollywood, has there been anyone to at least try and enter the Armed Forces?
