Van T. Barfoot-A True Patriot and Hero

Now this is what I call a hero.
Semper Fi
May you Rest In Peace!
VanT. Barfoot died at the age of 92 on 2 March 2012.
Remember the guy who wouldn't take the flag down?
You might remember a news story several months ago about a crotchety old man who defied his homeowners association and refused to take down the flagpole on his property and the large flag that flew on it.
Now you can find out who, exactly, that old man was. On June 15, 1919,
Van T. Barfoot was born in Edinburg -- probably didn't make much news back then.
Twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano, Italy , Van T. Barfoot, who had enlisted in the US Army in 1940, set out to flank German machine gun positions from which fire was coming down on his fellow soldiers. He advanced through a minefield, took out three enemy machine gun positions and returned with 17 prisoners of war.
If that wasn't enough for a day's work, he later took on and destroyed three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions.
That probably didn't make much news either, given the scope of the war, but it did earn Van T. Barfoot, who retired as a Colonel after also serving in Korea and Vietnam , a Congressional Medal of Honor.
What did make news...
was a neighborhood association's quibble with how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag outside his suburban Virginia home.
Seems the rules said a flag could be flown on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such as Barfoot's 21-foot flagpole were unsuitable.

He had been denied a permit for the pole, erected it anyway and was facing court action if he didn't take it down.
Since the story made national TV, the neighborhood association has rethought its position and agreed to indulge this old hero who dwells among them.
"In the time I have left I plan to continue to fly the American flag without interference," Barfoot told The Associated Press. As well he should.
And if any of his neighbors still takes a notion to contest him, they might want to read his Medal of Honor citation.
It indicates he's not real good at backing down.
Van T. Barfoot's Medal of Honor citation:
This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry:
WE ONLY LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE…
BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!
AND, BECAUSE OF OLD MEN LIKE
VAN BARFOOT!
Obviously he is not related to anybody in congress!
MTW- They gave him hell over his Patriotism. Leave our few remaining MOH winners alone! Rest in Peace Colonel Barfoot, and Thankyou.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Chagas: The New Aids?

Chagas: Is tropical disease really the new AIDS?
By Dylan Stableford Senior Media Report | The Lookout

Chagas, a tropical disease spread by insects, is causing some fresh concern following an editorial—published earlier this week in a medical journal—that called it "the new AIDS of the Americas."
More than 8 million people have been infected by Chagas, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States.
The editorial, published by the Public Library of Science's Neglected Tropical Diseases, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV.
"There are a number of striking similarities between people living with Chagas disease and people living with HIV/AIDS," the authors wrote, "particularly for those with HIV/AIDS who contracted the disease in the first two decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic."
Both diseases disproportionately affect people living in poverty, both are chronic conditions requiring prolonged, expensive treatment, and as with patients in the first two decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, "most patients with Chagas disease do not have access to health care facilities."
Unlike HIV, Chagas is not a sexually-transmitted disease: it's "caused by parasites transmitted to humans by blood-sucking insects," as the New York Times put it.
"It likes to bite you on the face," CNN reported. "It's called the kissing bug. When it ingests your blood, it excretes the parasite at the same time. When you wake up and scratch the itch, the parasite moves into the wound and you're infected."
"Gaaah," Cassie Murdoch wrote on Jezebel.com, summing up the sentiment of everyone who read the journal's report.
Chagas, also known as American trypanosomiasis, kills about 20,000 people per year, the journal said.
And while just 20 percent of those infected with Chagas develop a life-threatening form of the disease, Chagas is "hard or impossible to cure," the Times reports:
The disease can be transmitted from mother to child or by blood transfusion. About a quarter of its victims eventually will develop enlarged hearts or intestines, which can fail or burst, causing sudden death. Treatment involves harsh drugs taken for up to three months and works only if the disease is caught early.
"The problem is once the heart symptoms start, which is the most dreaded complication—the Chagas cardiomyopathy—the medicines no longer work very well," Dr. Peter Hotez, a researcher at Baylor College of Medicine and one of the editorial's authors, told CNN. "Problem No. 2: the medicines are extremely toxic."
And 11 percent of pregnant women in Latin America are infected with Chagas, the journal said.

Triatominae

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Hemiptera
Family: Reduviidae
Subfamily: Triatominae
Jeannel, 1919
The members of Triatominae /traɪ.əˈtɒmɨniː/, a subfamily of Reduviidae, are also known as conenose bugs, kissing bugs, assassin bugs or triatomines. Most of the 130 or more species of this subfamily are haematophagous, i.e. feed on vertebrate blood; a very few species feed on other invertebrates (Sandoval et al. 2000, 2004). They are mainly found and widespread in the Americas, with a few species present in Asia, Africa and Australia. These bugs usually share shelter with nesting vertebrates, from which they suck blood. In areas where Chagas disease occurs (from the southern United States to northern Argentina), all triatomine species are potential vectors of the Chagas disease parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, but only those species (such as Triatoma infestans and Rhodnius prolixus) that are well adapted to live with humans are considered important vectors.
MTW- When was the last time a pharmaceutical company ACTUALLY cured a disease, rather than supply us with the drugs to enable us to “live with it”? I know what I am talking about, as I am disabled, and find myself at the mercy of doctors who do not know the meaning of the word. But that is another story. Drug companies make billions off of us, and we are still in a Healthcare crisis. Now this? Those 300,000 in this Country who happen to be infected, are they from south of the border, and here legally- or not? If not, Obama’s lack of border control has now brought infectious disease into our Country, with all of his other prior damage. Way to go Mr. President. I suppose this one is Bush’s fault, too?
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Canada Searches For Body Parts Mailer

Canada-Wide Arrest Warrant Issued for Suspect in Body Part Mailings
By Christina Ng | ABC News
Canada-Wide Arrest Warrant Issued for Suspect in Body Part Mailings (ABC News)
Authorities have issued a "Canada-wide arrest warrant" for Rocco Luka Magnotta, a suspect police have connected to a homicide and the mailings of two body parts.
Magnotta, 29, also goes by the pseudonyms Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov, according to the Montreal Police Department, and some of these aliases have been linked to porn films.
A human foot was mailed to the Ottawa headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada. It was discovered on Tuesday by a receptionist, who contacted authorities after receiving a blood-soaked package.
Later in the day, police seized a second package at an Ottawa post office that contained a hand. Authorities have not said where the second package was addressed.
Authorities confirmed that the body parts mailed to Ottawa originated in Montreal.
Also on Tuesday, a janitor found a male torso in a suitcase in Montreal's Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood. Tips led investigators to a residence on Decaire Boulevard, also in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, where they conducted a search. Evidence from the scene is being tested.
"Currently, concrete elements allow police to believe that the events are linked," Montreal Police said in a statement today, referring to the discovery of the torso and the mailing of the body parts. "However, before concluding beyond doubt that a link exists, investigators await the results of pathological expertise."
Police have been vague about how they arrived at Magnotta as a suspect, but did say that they believe the male victim whose torso was discovered in a suitcase knew his attacker, Montreal police Commander Ian Lafreniere told reporters on Wednesday, according to CTV.
Magnotta is white with black hair and blue eyes. He is 5 feet 10 inches and weighs about 135 pounds.

Intolerance To Breastfeeding Is A Travesty

Military Moms Breastfeeding in Uniform Stir Controversy
By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! Shine | Parenting
The photo is part of a local breastfeeding awareness campaign by Mom2Mom of Fairchild Air Force Base, a support group launched in January by Crystal Scott, a military spouse and mother of three. Among the intimate close-ups of smiling young mothers cuddling their adorable babies, the images of the two airmen stand out.
Photo: Brynja Sigurdardottir
"People are comparing breastfeeding in uniform to urinating and defecating in uniform. They're comparing it to the woman who posed in "Playboy" in uniform [in 2007]" Scott told Yahoo! Shine in an interview. "We never expected it to be like this."
"I'm an X-ray tech and I breastfeed in my uniform all the time," Scott says. "Granted they're scrubs. But people do it all the time in their uniforms. If you have a hungry baby, why would you take the time to change completely?"
Terran Echegoyen-McCabe, a member of the Air National Guard who was photographed in uniform nursing her 10-month-old twin daughters, says that she's surprised by the reaction to the photos.
"I have breastfed in our lobby, in my car, in the park ... and I pump, usually in the locker room," she told the "Today" show, adding that she usually nurses her babies while on her lunch break during drill weekends. "I'm proud to be wearing a uniform while breast-feeding. I'm proud of the photo and I hope it encourages other women to know they can breastfeed whether they're active duty, guard or civilian."
All of the women in the photos volunteered to appear in the awareness campaign, and Echegoyen-McCabe is featured -- wearing civilian clothing -- in a few of the other candid shots. None of the photos are posed; the women are simply feeding their babies the way they usually do. But even though some of the other photographs are just as revealing, only the ones of Echegoyen-McCabe and her friend Christina Luna in uniform have been criticized.
"The Air Force has never endorsed these photos," the photographer, Brynja Sigurdardottir points out on her website, where she posted several other photos from the Mom2Mom campaign. "These women just happen to be in the Air Force, in their uniform, breastfeeding their babies."
When it comes to talking about breastfeeding in public, comparing it to other bodily functions -- and even sex -- is common, in spite of the fact that breastfeeding is legal and protected while defecating or having sex in public is not. But the fact that two of the moms are shown breastfeeding in public while wearing military uniforms makes the entire controversy more complicated. The Army, for example, didn't even come up with a combat uniform for women until 2010, so accepting the idea of a uniformed soldier breastfeeding a baby may be especially jarring. And the uniforms themselves come with their own sets of rules.
According to Military Spouse Central, public displays of affection -- even something as innocuous as holding hands -- are not allowed while wearing a military uniform. Also forbidden while in uniform: eating, drinking, or talking on a cell phone while walking, carrying an umbrella that's not black, and (in some cases) smoking or even chewing gum. While there is no policy that addresses breastfeeding in uniform, Air Force spokesperson Captain Rose Richeson told MSNBC: "Airmen should be mindful of their dress and appearance and present a professional image at all times while in uniform." Military moms who are still breastfeeding are encouraged to pump and bottle-feed their babies while they're in uniform.
Scott suggests that the issue might have less to do with the uniform and more to do with our own internal conflicts. "I think a lot of people think that you can't be a mom and be a soldier," she says. "This is not something that's out of norm for them. They breastfeed in uniform all the time -- it's just not something that's usually captured on film."

MTW- As a heterosexual male, this seems perfectly natural and beautiful to me. I would like to have a wife and child someday, there simply have not been any takers lately. Seriously, how many Rights do our Military Men and Women have to forfeit to Obama and all of the rest of you intolerant people? How did your Mother feed you when you were a baby? Leave these Ladies alone; if it is okay with you for them to DIE in these uniforms, why is it a problem when they give LIFE? Oh, sure, these babies will wait for their moms to change out of uniform for their food; they will sit there as quiet as a mouse. Also, I like breasts. Is this Military not getting carried away with the rules of conduct in uniform? But it is alright for them to be gay. No wonder most of the World hates us. A little ironic the name of the base is FAIRCHILD Air Force Base. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!

Former Liberian President Sentenced For War Crimes

Former Liberian President Charles G. Taylor sentenced to 50 years for war crimes

Former Liberian President Charles G. Taylor was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday for his role in Sierra Leone's decade-long civil war that left more than 50,000 dead.
Taylor, the first former head of state convicted of war crimes since World War II, was found guilty last month of 11 charges of aiding rebels in what CNN described as "a campaign of terror, involving murder, rape, sexual slavery and the conscription of children younger than 15." He was also found guilty of a "blood diamond" plot--"using Sierra Leone's diamond deposits to help fuel its civil war with arms and guns while enriching himself."
His lawyers say they plan to appeal.
On Wednesday, at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in Leidschendam, near The Hague, Netherlands, Taylor looked down as Judge Richard Lussick read the sentencing statement. "The accused has been found responsible for aiding and abetting as well as planning some of the most heinous and brutal crimes recorded in human history," Lussick said.
The judge also recounted statements from prosecution witnesses. "Witness TF1064 was forced to carry a bag containing human heads," Lussick said. "On the way, the rebels ordered her to laugh as she carried the bags dripping with blood. The bag was emptied, and she saw the heads of her children."
There is no death penalty in international criminal law; the prosecution asked the court to sentence Taylor, 64, to 80 years, but the tribunal judges felt that sentence was "excessive." He will serve his sentence in a British jail.
Taylor was president of Liberia from 1997 to 2003. He was arrested in 2006.
"I never stood a chance," Taylor, who described himself as a "peacemaker," said last week in court. "Only time will tell how many other African heads of state will be destroyed."
"The sentence that was imposed today does not replace amputated limbs," prosecutor Brenda Hollis said at the sentencing. "It does not bring back those who were murdered. It does not heal the wounds of those who were victims of sexual violence and does not remove the permanent emotional and psychological and physical scars of those enslaved or recruited as child soldiers."
MTW- They do not have the death penalty for such barbaric crimes? I hope that the appeal fails. People in power believe that they can do whatever they would like to. They are wrong. This is a good start. More Americans care what is going on in Africa than you might think. Greed is one hell of a thing. It turned into this sorry ass committing these atrocities. The linguistic faux pas overshadowed Obama's posthumous award of America's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to Jan Karski, a former Polish underground officer who provided early eyewitness accounts of the Nazi purge against Jews. "Before one trip across enemy lines, resistance fighters told him that Jews were being murdered on a massive scale, and smuggled him into the Warsaw Ghetto and a Polish death camp to see for himself," Obama said.
The Polish government keenly watches the global media for descriptions of former concentration camps as "Polish" because it says the term -- even if used simply as a geographical indicator -- can give the impression that Poland bore responsibility for Nazi Germany's World War II genocide.
Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for Obama's National Security Council, said that the president "misspoke." "He was referring to Nazi death camps in Poland."
"We regret this misstatement, which should not detract from the clear intention to honor Mr Karski and those brave citizens who stood on the side of human dignity in the face of tyranny."
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, recalled that Obama visited the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial during his visit to Poland last year and had repeatedly paid tribute to the bravery of Poles during World War II.
On several other occasions, Obama has also paid tribute to Poles who perished in Nazi camps like Auschwitz-Birkenau, near the Polish city of Krakow, and said the victims must never be forgotten.
In his remarks on Tuesday, Obama noted that Karski had taken his testimony about the horror of Nazi death camps and the Warsaw ghetto to wartime US president Franklin Roosevelt.
As a young man, Karski, who was a clandestine officer of the Polish government-in-exile in London, witnessed scenes of starvation and death after infiltrating the Warsaw Ghetto.
Dressed as a Ukrainian guard, he also went to a Nazi transit camp near Warsaw where he saw Jews beaten and stabbed and loaded onto train cars treated with quicklime for transit to the gas chambers.
Karski, who died in Washington aged 86 in 2000, later became a professor of history at Georgetown University.
The majority of the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust were murdered in death camps set up and entirely controlled by Germany in occupied Poland.
A million of them died at Auschwitz-Birkenau, which has become the era's most enduring symbol.
Poland was home to Europe's largest pre-war Jewish population, some 3.5 million people. Polish Jews represented around half the Nazis' victims.
Around three million non-Jewish Poles were also killed over the six years that followed the Nazis' 1939 invasion, many of them in death camps.
MTW- Such a great orator, and he mis-speaks? Maybe he IS Hitler re-incarnated and in denial about the Nazi SS Death Camps. By the way Mr. Obama, or the teleprompter man who is now out of work, that is what the camps are and were called. They probably do not teach that in Indonesia, but a Harvard Graduate should know the damn difference. Enough Polish Jews were murdered by the Nazis for them to deserve some respect. It is bad enough that FDR agreed with Stalin to let the USSR HAVE Poland in exchange for Russia's help in WWII (a lttle like that open microphone recently). They do not deserve another disrespecting by our leader. As far as the Medal of Freedom recipients, congratulations; however, anything bestowed upon anyone by this joke of a President should be leary, as it is re-election time. He more than likely has ulterior motives. Still, I am happy for Mr. Bob Dylan and Mr. John Glenna, as well as epidemiologist William Foege, Justice Stevens. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!

Romney Nomination Comes With A Side Of Trump

In Vegas, Romney claims the nomination, but the focus is on Trump
By Holly Bailey| The Ticket
Senior Political Reporter
Romney and Trump in February (Julie Jacobson/AP)
LAS VEGAS—Less than an hour after he officially clinched the 1,144 delegates needed to claim the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney celebrated his win by mingling with high-dollar GOP donors at a $2 million fundraiser here.
But it was hardly a victory lap for Romney. On a day that normally would have meant lots of free media for Romney's campaign, the Republican contender's message was instead overshadowed by one of the hosts of Tuesday's event, Donald Trump, whose renewed interest in casting doubt on President Obama's American birthright has dominated the news cycle in recent days.
Of course, you wouldn't have known that from Tuesday's fundraiser, where both men were careful to stay away from the birther controversy.
Introducing the Republican nominee, Trump avoided the hot button subject, instead talking up Romney's ability to rebuild the economy and strengthen the nation's standing around the world, especially on trade issues.
"He's going to turn this country around. He's going to create jobs like you haven't seen for many, many years," Trump declared. "We were a great country. Soon we won't be a great country at all... Mitt Romney will make us a great country again."
When Romney took the stage, he politely thanked his host—giving Trump props for "twisting the arms" necessary to make the financial event happen.
"I appreciate your help," Romney said.
But the Republican nominee quickly turned the focus to the path ahead, warning supporters that the path to November wouldn't be easy.
"I know the road to 1,144 was long and hard, but I also know that the road to 11/06, November 6, is also going to be long," Romney said. "It's going to be hard and it's going to be worth it because we're going to take back the White House and get America right again."
Among those in the crowd in Vegas: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who joined his former rival on the trail for the first time since dropping his own bid for the Republican nomination last month.
While Gingrich didn't speak at the fundraiser, he talked to reporters ahead of the event, defending Romney's muted reaction to Trump's birther conspiracies.
"Gov. Romney is not distracted, the Republican Party is not distracted. We believe this is an American-born, job-killing president," Gingrich told reporters, per the Los Angeles Times. "Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs, but that's an argument over background. The key fact is for any American worried about the economy, Obama is a job-killing president."
MTW-Do you think Donald Trump wants to get rid of Obama? Duh! Anyhow, congratulations to Mitt Romney for the nomination. Let us all hope we are Obama-free after this November. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Al-Qaeda In Yemen- Why Do We Not Stop Them?

Inside an al Qaeda stronghold in Yemen
By Yahoo! News | The Upshot
A Frontline Exclusive
In recent years, the most significant terrorist plots against the United States have emanated from Yemen. This little known country on the Arabian Peninsula has become the hottest front in the war against al Qaeda. Last week, a suicide bomber killed about 100 soldiers in the country's capital, Sana. Earlier this month, news broke of a foiled plot by al Qaeda in Yemen to bomb a U.S.-bound airliner.
Ghaith Abdul-Ahad, reporting for FRONTLINE, recently traveled to Yemen's radical heartland to investigate this threat. A portion of his report, Al Qaeda in Yemen —which airs tonight on PBS (check local listings) and online at pbs.org/frontline—is embedded above.
In dangerous areas of southern Yemen where few journalists have traveled, Ghaith found members of al Qaeda, describing themselves as the group Ansar al-Sharia, in control of cities and towns and winning both support and recruits among some in the local population by administering scarce resources.
Ghaith Abdul-Ahad visits Jaar, which al Qaeda captured a year ago without resistance from the Yemeni Army—which receives arms, training and intelligence from the United States. An al Qaeda spokesman, Fouad, took Ghaith on a tour of the large town and explained the way they are implementing Sharia, Islamic law. On the desolate streets, Ghaith encountered fighters he believed to be from Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
"We are at war with America and its allies," Fouad told Ghaith. And Ansar al-Sharia has grand ambitions: the creation of its own state.
"For the first time in my experience, we see al Qaeda actually trying to hold territory, and this is a departure from anything that we had seen before," U.S. ambassador Gerald M. Feierstein told FRONTLINE. "The fact of the matter is that they continue to try to find ways to attack not only here in Yemen, but in the United States, in the neighborhood against Saudi Arabia, against Western Europe and the U.K. So they have global aspirations, and we consider that they still present a very significant challenge."
President Obama has said that the United States is "very concerned" about al Qaeda's operations in Yemen. American drones regularly target the group and the administration has, in President Obama's words, "established a strong counterterrorism partnership with the Yemeni government."
But Osama bin Laden warned al Qaeda in Yemen that the main threat to their survival was not U.S. drone attacks, not the Yemeni army, but antagonizing Yemen's tribes.
In the rest of Al Qaeda in Yemen, Ghaith explores the tension between al Qaeda's brutal tactics and its efforts not to alienate the Yemeni populace. Ghait travels to the town of Lawdar, where he discovers that al Qaeda had been driven from power by local residents after assassinating a tribal leader.
MTW- Mr. Obama is not going to do a single thing. He has devastated this Nation from the inside; he could not have done a better job if he were an AL-Qaeda "plant". We know they are in Yemen. We linger over the Taliban. Set a date to leave there, as if he knows he will be re-elected ahead of time. A large portion of our Military wants to go home, and are exausted and ready to give up; this Administration is such a cancer. Does that we lose this War to Al-Qaeda? That does not sit well with me. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Pelosi Hires A Known Terrorist As A Fundraiser

Nancy Pelosi Hires Former Terrorist Fundraiser
Posted by Daniel Greenfield
In 2000, he oversaw a week of events that raised money for Islamic terrorists murdering Jews. From 2005 until the present, he oversaw a left-wing blog whose contributors used language that even he admitted was anti-Semitic. And now Faiz Shakir is about to become a senior advisor to the Democratic Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
What happens to a top left-wing operative when he loses control of a media operation so badly that the White House has to distance itself from its allied think tank? He gets a job offer from Nancy Pelosi.
After the use of bigoted language by ThinkProgress contributors turned into a growing scandal, the White House publicly distanced itself from ThinkProgress, an outlet of the Center for American Progress, which Time Magazine called the think tank with the largest influence on the Obama administration. Jarrod Bernstein, the White House’s liaison to the Jewish community, described the events there as troubling and stated that the Center for American Progress’s attitude was not that of the Obama administration.
MTW- Nancy Pelosi is a moron. You can see that now, right? I wonder how many heads this piece of Shakir has chopped off. Obama really STILL has the Jewish vote? Not if I were a Jew, this Administration is filled with deceit. I hope you are paying attention, Israel. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!

Iran Has Enough Uranium For Five Bombs

Iran has enough uranium for five bombs: expert
By Fredrik Dahl | Reuters
Iran Could Make Five Nukes, If It Wanted
Iran's chief negotiator Saeed Jalili addresses a news conference after a meeting in Baghdad, May 24, 2012. Iran and world powers agreed to meet again in Moscow next month for more talks to try to end the long-running dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme, but there was scant progress to resolve the main sticking points between the two sides. REUTERS/Thaier al-Sudani
Iran on Saturday downplayed as a "technical" issue a report by the UN atomic watchdog revealing that uranium traces of a higher grade than any found before had been detected. (AFP Photo/)
VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has significantly stepped up its output of low-enriched uranium and total production in the last five years would be enough for at least five nuclear weapons if refined much further, a U.S. security institute said.
The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), a think-tank which closely tracks Iran's nuclear program, made the analysis on the basis of data in the latest quarterly U.N. watchdog report which was issued on Friday.
Progress in Iran's nuclear activities is closely watched by the West and Israel as it could determine how long it could take Tehran to build atomic bombs, if it decided to do so. Iran denies any plan to and says its aims are entirely peaceful.
During talks in Baghdad this week, six world powers failed to convince Iran to scale back its uranium enrichment program. They will meet again in Moscow next month to try to defuse a decade-old standoff that has raised fears of a new war in the Middle East that could disrupt oil supplies.
Friday's report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a Vienna-based U.N. body, showed Iran pressing ahead with its uranium enrichment work in defiance of U.N. resolutions calling on it to suspend the activity.
It said Iran had produced almost 6.2 metric tons (6.83 tons) of uranium enriched to a level of 3.5 percent since it began the work in 2007 - some of which has subsequently been further processed into higher-grade material.
This is nearly 750 kg more than in the previous IAEA report issued in February, and ISIS said Iran's monthly production had risen by roughly a third.
"This total amount of 3.5 percent low enriched uranium hexafluoride, if further enriched to weapon grade, is enough to make over five nuclear weapons," ISIS said in its analysis.
It added, however, that some of Iran's higher-grade uranium had been converted into reactor fuel and would not be available for nuclear weapons, at least not quickly.
Enriched uranium can be used to fuel power plants, which is Iran's stated purpose, or to provide material for bombs, if refined to a much higher degree. The West suspects that may be Iran's ultimate goal despite the Islamic Republic's denials.
Iran began enriching uranium to a fissile concentration of 20 percent in 2010, saying it needed this to fuel a medical research reactor. It later expanded the work sharply by launching enrichment at an underground site, Fordow.
It alarmed a suspicious West since such enhanced enrichment accomplishes much of the technical leap towards 90 percent - or weapons-grade - uranium.
The IAEA report said Iran had installed more than 50 percent more enrichment centrifuges at Fordow, which is buried deep under rock and soil to protect it against any enemy attacks.
Although not yet being fed with uranium, the new machines could be used to further boost Iran's output of uranium enriched to 20 percent.
ISIS said Iran still appeared to be experiencing problems in its testing of production-scale units of more advanced centrifuges that would allow it to refine uranium faster, even though it had made some progress.

MTW- I believe that if they indeed HAVE that kind of firepower, it would have been used by now; unless they buy a missile from North Korea to deliver it. Boom! I can write a check for a million dollars if I want to, of course it would bounce higher than North Korea's missile. Have they EVER tested a Nuclear device? Can they make one that WILL work? Enough talk, I am personally ready for Israel to fly over there and show them some weapons that ARE REAL! Nobama telling Israel to have restraint? Same thing George HW Bush did, then Clinton, then GW Bush. Enough, protect your Country, as well as God knows who else Mr. Netanyahu; tell Mr. Obama to kiss your big Jewish ass and do something-no ofense intended to you Mr. Prime Minister. Shalom. We need a leader who actually has got a pair. I am sure Yemen wants that as well. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Syrian Massacre: Kofi Annan Is Going To Handle That

Syrian massacre: Kofi Annan to have ‘serious and frank discussions’ with President Bashar Al-Assad

United Nations special envoy Kofi Annan arrived on Monday in Damascus to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on the heels of a weekend massacre that left more than 100 people--including what appeared to be "rows of bloody children"--dead.
The U.N. said at least 108 people were killed on Friday in the town of Houla--49 of them children. The Syrian government blamed rebel gunmen for the attacks, dismissing the suspicions of international watchdog groups and others that pro-regime forces were involved.
On Sunday, the U.N. Security Council condemned the killings "in the strongest possible terms" and called for an independent investigation.
"I have come to Syria at a critical moment in this crisis," Annan said in a statement upon his arrival. "I am personally shocked and horrified by the tragic incident in Houla two days ago, which took so many innocent lives, children, women and men. This was an appalling crime, and the [U.N.] Security Council has rightly condemned it."
Annan said those "must be held accountable."
Assad has come under intense scrutiny from world leaders in the wake of amateur video, released over the weekend, that showed "a room crammed with the mangled and bloody bodies of children--some with their skulls torn open," CNN said. According to the Associated Press, another video later video "showed the bodies, wrapped in white sheets, being placed in a sprawling mass grave."
"I intend to have serious and frank discussions with President Bashar Al-Assad," Annan said. "Our goal is to stop this suffering."
More than 9,000 people have been killed since the uprising began in early 2011, according to U.N. estimates.
He added: "It must end and it must end now. I urge the government to take bold steps to signal that it is serious in its intention to resolve this crisis peacefully, and for everyone involved to help create the right context for a credible political process.
And this message of peace is not only for the government, but for everyone with a gun."
According to the Associated Press, Syrian troops killed 24 people early Monday in a shelling in Hama.
MTW- The United Nations is an impotent organization, and we need to make it leave our lands. This is a terrible set of events in Syria lately, the last couple thousand years. "Help", thusfar, has not worked.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Leon Panetta Calls Pakistan Doctor's Treason Sentence 'Disturbing'
By Jake Tapper | ABC OTUS News
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said it was "disturbing" and "difficult to understand" Pakistan's 33-year prison sentence for a doctor who aided the United States in finding terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.
Shakil Afridi, a 48-year-old Pakistani doctor, was convicted last week of high treason by a Pakistani tribal court for working with the CIA by running a fake vaccination program near the al Qaeda leader's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in an attempt to collect DNA samples from bin Laden's relatives to try to confirm his location.
"It is so difficult to understand and it's so disturbing that they would sentence this doctor to 33 years for helping in the search for the most notorious terrorist in our times," Panetta told me in a "This Week" interview.
"This doctor was not working against Pakistan. He was working against al Qaeda," Panetta added. "And I hope that ultimately Pakistan understands that, because what they have done here … does not help in the effort to try to reestablish a relationship between the United States and Pakistan."
Afridi's conviction was met with harsh criticism by U.S. officials, amid already-strained relations with Pakistan after the discovery that bin Laden had hidden in the country for more than five years, before Navy SEALs raided his Abbottabad compound and killed him last May.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Afridi's treatment "unjust and unwarranted" on Thursday, while Congress proposed cutting aid to Pakistan by $33 million - $ 1 million for each year of Afridi's sentence.
When asked if Pakistan can still be considered a U.S. ally, Panetta acknowledged the "complicated" relationship with the country.
"This has been one of the most complicated relationships that we've had, working with Pakistan," Panetta said. ""It's an up-and-down relationship. There have been periods where we've had good cooperation and they have worked with us. And there have been periods where we've had conflict."
"So our responsibility here is to keep pushing them to understand how important it is for them to work with us to try to deal with the common threats we both face," Panetta added. "And what they did with this doctor doesn't help in the effort to try to do that."
Afridi's sentencing could also complicate negotiations over the re-opening of land supply routes through Pakistan for use by U.S.-led NATO forces in Afghanistan. After once charging $250 per truck, Pakistan is now pushing for $5,000 for each truck that passes through Pakistan carrying supplies.
"We're going to pay a fair price. They're negotiating what that price ought to be," Panetta said of the deadlocked discussions. "We're not about to get gouged in the price. We want a fair price. "
Pakistanis for their part have criticized the U.S. for its drone strike campaign in their country, with the U.S. using unmanned aerial drones to target potential terrorist targets - but sometimes leading to civilian casualties that spur resentment towards the U.S.
Panetta, however, called drone strikes "one of the most precise weapons that we have in our arsenal," and said that protecting U.S. security by leveling terrorist targets in countries like Pakistan and Yemen takes priority.
"Our responsibility is to defend and protect the United States of America," Panetta said. "And using the operations that we have, using the systems that we have, using the weapons that we have, is absolutely essential to our ability to defend Americans. That's what counts, and that's what we're doing."
MTW- They want to cut 33 million? Gee, the reward was nearly that high was it not? This man risked it all to help us, now we (the CIA) will let him spend 33 years in prison. Yet they still help Pakistan; even after they harbored bin-Laden for 6 years. Our Governments is totally screwed up. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Cheap Shot On Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay taken off on stretcher after getting flattened in Soccer Aid match
By Brooks Peck | Dirty Tackle
The biennial Soccer Aid match benefiting UNICEF was once again held at Old Trafford on Sunday, pitting England against the Rest of the World. As usual, both teams were comprised of a mix of celebrities and football legends, but this year one of those celebrities probably regretted stepping on the pitch with one of those legends.
Playing for the Rest of the World team along with the likes of Will Ferrell, Gerard Butler, Mike Myers, Ed Norton and Woody Harrelson (who scored the winning penalty two years ago) under recently sacked Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish (see full rosters here), chef and profanity connoisseur Gordon Ramsay was taken off on a stretcher an hour into the game after former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham smashed into him.

Ramsay, who was a trialist with Rangers in his younger days before a knee injury ended his hopes of a career as a footballer, didn't get much sympathy from Sheringham after the hit. Instead, the England striker gave him a pat on the face as Ramsay winced in pain before being carried off and replaced by "X-Men: First Class" actor James McAvoy.
England (under manager Sam Allardyce) went on to win the match 3-1 with their first goal coming from Sheringham himself just nine minutes after crushing Ramsay, but the goal of the day belonged to the RotW team's Serge Pizzorno, lead guitarist for Kasabian, who chipped a beauty over legendary Arsenal keeper David Seaman.
"I told my careers adviser I wanted to be centre forward for Leicester City. When he said 'No' I thought I'd be in a rock 'n' roll band," Pizzorno said before the match, showing that he was a bit too easily swayed as a youth. Here are some more photos from the match...

MTW- What a cheap shot Sheringham. Bollocks to you, you F-ing wanker! You know he has a bad knee. Get your 10 minutes in the spotlight? Gordon Ramsay is very rich and famous, and you, well I have never heard of you until this article. I love Chef Ramsay. Chef, I am one of your biggest (or smallest) fans; it is not just what you do, it is how you do it. That passion you have should be inside of all of us. I wish you would have been able to knock the bloody hell out of that wee dirty bastard! Sincerely, Michael T. Wayne (love to interview you) GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Posted by Michael T. Athletes Killed In Action

Memorial Day: Athletes Killed In Action
Written by: Victor Chi
Memorial Day is all about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and pro athletes have been part of that mix since World War I. Here's a look at some of the more notable athletes who lost their lives in service:
Pat Tillman became an instant hero when he turned down a multi-million dollar contract extension with the Cardinals to enlist in the Army shortly after the 9/11 attacks. His legacy turned tragic when he was gunned down by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004.
Baker was a hockey and football star at Princeton who was a member of the Army Air Service (the forerunner to the Air Force) during World War I. He died during a test flight in France. Baker is in the Hockey Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame, and the Hobey Baker Award is given annually to the best player in NCAA hockey player. The Iowa halfback, who also passed, punted and returned kicks, was the 1939 Heisman Trophy winner. He joined the Navy during World War II and was killed in a training flight in 1943. Iowa's football stadium was named in his memory in 1972
Lummus was a baseball and football star at Baylor, and played the 1941 season in the NFL as an end with the Giants. He then enlisted in the Marines and was killed on Iwo Jima, but his heroics in that battle earned him the Medal of Honor
Kalsu was an All-American offensive lineman at Oklahoma and played the 1968 season with the Bills. He was then deployed to Vietnam and killed in 1970. The Bills added him to the team's Wall of Fame in 2000.
Steinbrunner, a football and basketball star at Washington State, played one season (1953) as a tackle for the Browns before an injury ended his NFL career. He joined the Air Force and was shot down in Vietnam in 1967.
Blozis was an offensive tackle with the Giants for three seasons before heading into the Army. He was killed in France in 1945. The Giants have retired his No. 32. Blozis, who starred at Georgetown, is also in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Gedeon (pictured on the right as a member of the Washington Senators) starred in baseball, football and track at Michigan. He played five games for the Senators in 1939, then was drafted into the Army. He was killed in 1944 when his plane was shot down in France.
Grant played various infield positions for the Phillies, Reds and Giants during his 10-year MLB career that ended in 1915. He retired and became a lawyer but enlisted in the Army when the U.S. got involved with World War I. He was killed in France in 1918.
In addition to former Giants infielder Elmer Gedeon (featured in slide No. 8 above), there was one other MLB player killed in World War II. Harry O'Neill appeared in one game as a catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1939. O'Neill joined the Marines and was killed on Iwo Jima in 1945. The Big Ten's football MVP in 1942, Wisconsin receiver Dave Schreiner, was a second-round pick by the Lions but joined the Marines and was killed in the Battle of Okinawa.
MTW- We need to remember our Fighting Men and Women, on Memorial Day. Some of them paid the highest price. Thankyou for protecting us. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Santa Barbara War Cemetary

Santa Barbara
The first picture and the last picture are taken at the beach in Santa Barbara right next to the pier.
There is a veterans group that started putting a cross and candle for every death in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The amazing thing is that they only do it on the weekends. They put up this graveyard and take it down every weekend. Guys sleep in the sand next to it and keep watch over it at night so nobody messes with it.
Every cross has the name, rank and D.O.B. and D.O.D. on it. Very moving, very powerful??? so many young volunteers. So many 30 to 40 year olds as well. Amazing !

Did you know that the ACLU has filed a suit to have all military cross-shaped headstones removed, and that they filed another suit to end prayer from the military completely? They're making great progress. The Navy Chaplains can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer thanks to the ACLU and our new administration.
MTW- You know, in World War II, the Nazis did not even do anything to mess with the grave of the Marquis de Lafayette, in France, he was granted American Citizenship, along with ALL of his decendents. His grave was filled partially with soil from Bunker Hill as well as an American flag. That should tell you something.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Brothers Forever- United States Marines. Semper-Fi!

THIS IS THE BEST EMAIL EVER!
As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.
The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car, and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.
I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too, and took a few steps towards him.
I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade. He then turned back to the old man. I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying:
'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.' And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.
I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief, and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine.
He then went to his wife and spoke with her; he appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough, and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight, and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.'
He smiled sheepishly, and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself, and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around, I saw a gas station up the road, and I told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went I inside. I saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them, and related the problem the old man had with his car. I offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.
The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine), I spoke with the old gentleman.
When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?' He said that he served with the first Marine Division at Guadalcanal Pelieliu, and Okinawa.
He had hit three of the worst ones, and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me. I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.
He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it, and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands all around again, and I said my goodbye's to his wife.
I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station, I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me.
One of them pulled out a card from his pocket, looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.
For some reason I had gone about two blocks, when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name was written: 'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.'
I sat there motionless, looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together because one of us needed help.
He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage, and an honor to have been in his presence.
Remember, as we approach another Memorial Day, OLD men like him gave you, and all of us, FREEDOM for America.
Thanks to those who served and still serve, and to all of those who supported them, and who continue to support them.
America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!
Remember, Freedom isn't Free. Thousands have paid the price, so that you can enjoy what you have today.
Appreciate our Men and Women whom have served, are ready and willing to serve, and most of all, to those who have paid the highest price for our continuing freedom. God bless the United States Armed Forces. Show them your gratitude. They have certainly earned it.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Alaska Starts Receiving Tsunami Debris

Alaskan crews gear up to tackle Japan tsunami debris
By Yereth Rosen | Reuters
In this photo taken by Canadian Peter Mark in the end of April, 2012, and released on Wednesday, May 2, a Harley-Davidson motorbike lies on a beach in Graham Island, western Canada. Japanese media say the motorcycle lost in last year's tsunami washed up on the island about 6,400 kilometers (4,000 miles) away. The rusted bike was originally found by Mark in a large white container where its owner, Ikuo Yokoyama, had kept it. The container was later washed away, leaving the motorbike half-buried in the sand. Yokoyama, who lost three members of his family in the March 11, 2011, tsunami, was located through the license plate number, Fuji TV reported Wednesday. (AP Photo/Kyodo News, Peter Mark)

The U.S. Coast Guard opened fire on Thursday on a derelict Japanese fishing vessel washed out to sea by last year's devastating tsunami in a bid to sink it and eliminate a threat to navigation, a spokesman for the agency said. FILE - This file photo taken March 13, 2011, and provided by the U.S. Navy, shows a Japanese home adrift in the Pacific Ocean, days after a massive earthquake and the ensuing tsunami hit Japan's east coast. Scientists believe ocean waves carried away 3-4 million tons of the 20 million tons of debris created by tsunamis that slammed into Japan after a magnitude-9.0 earthquake nearly a year ago. One-to-two million tons of it _ lumber and other construction material, fishing boats and other fragments of coastal towns _ are still in the water and are being carried across the Pacific by ocean currents. One to five percent of that may reach coastlines in Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon and Washington states. (AP Photo/U.S. Navy, Dylan McCord)
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - Cleanup workers will soon attack a jumble of debris from Japan's 2011 tsunami that litters an Alaskan island, as residents in the state gear up to scour their shores for everything from buoys to building material that has floated across the Pacific.
The cleansing project slated to start on Friday on Montague Island is expected to last a couple weeks, and organizers say it marks the first major project in Alaska to collect and dispose of debris from the tsunami.
The March 2011 tsunami, caused by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake, killed nearly 16,000 people and left over 3,000 missing on Japan's main island of Honshu, and precipitated a major radiation release at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
A U.S. senator has sought to obtain $45 million to tackle the problem, and officials have cited fears about invasive species and toxic substances thought to be among the floating mess of objects.
While debris from Japan is also floating toward other U.S. states along the West Coast, Alaska has a more extensive shoreline, much of it difficult to reach.
Montague is an uninhabited island at the entrance to Prince William Sound, southeast of Anchorage. About a dozen volunteers and employees from the environmental group Gulf of Alaska Keeper and the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies will handle the debris-removal project at the island.
"We'll probably remove 30 to 40 tons from there. That's just a start," said Patrick Chandler, special programs coordinator for the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies.
Japan has estimated 5 million tons of debris was swept out to sea, but that most of it sank, leaving 1.5 million tons floating. Still, those figures are rough estimates, said the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
POLYSTYRENE FOAM 'EGGS'
Observers flying over the Alaska coast have spotted, among other items, huge numbers of barrel-sized polystyrene foam buoys, often associated with Japanese oyster farms. Tiny specks of polystyrene foam that break away from larger objects can be dangerous to seabirds or marine mammals, because they resemble eggs or other food morsels, Chandler said.
Another worry is that floating debris might carry invasive species, such as barnacles, that would wreak havoc in waters off Alaska and the U.S. West Coast, said Doug Helton, the Seattle-based coordinator of NOAA's office of response and restoration.
Then there is the danger from noxious substances in partly full fuel jugs, cleanup organizers said.
Last month, the U.S. Coast Guard sank a 164-foot fishing boat from the Japan tsunami that drifted near Alaska. The Coast Guard said the so-called "ghost ship" was a navigational hazard.
With more debris headed for the West Coast, questions about cleanup costs remain unanswered. Those expenses could be high in Alaska because of geographic and weather challenges.
U.S. Senator Mark Begich of Alaska suggested last week that NOAA provide $45 million as an initial outlay to fund what is expected to be a sustained and difficult beach cleanup.
Meanwhile, David Baxter, a technician who works at a Federal Aviation Administration station on the uninhabited Middleton Island in the Gulf of Alaska, has made some notable finds on his rounds in his hobby of beachcombing.
Earlier this month, the owner of a tsunami-wrecked restaurant in the coastal Miyagi Prefecture spotted one of her buoys among Baxter's debris photos posted online. The yellow buoy was part of the restaurant's sign, he said.
Baxter has arranged to send it back to the woman. "Now that her buoy's found, she's going to rebuild," he said.

MTW- We do not mind cleaning up this stuff, but in exchange, could you stop killing dolphins and whales, and chopping the fins off of sharks and throwing them back in? That is some cruel behavior, like the Bataan Death March for aquatic life. However, seriously, I am aware that we will inevitably find Human remains. This is the worst part, and may God, or whoever you pray to comfort you. We wish you well.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
Posted by Michael T. Wayne- A Little Crazy-UPDATE-5-26-2012
We already have 5 or 6 large floating garbage "island like" dumps floating in the Pacific. There is enough plastic and other garbage to cover 500 football fields to a depth of 6 feet. If some of it came from the tsunami tragedy, no worries. That shit needs to be cleaned up, and we BETTER do it.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - Astronauts aboard the International Space Station captured the SpaceX Dragon cargo ship and guided the privately owned craft into a docking berth on Friday, opening a new chapter in the U.S. space program.
The unmanned capsule was the first commercial spaceship to reach the orbital outpost.
"This really is the beginning of a new era in commercial spaceflight," said Alan Lindenmoyer, who manages NASA's commercial space transportation programs.
Using the station's 58-foot long (17.7-meter) robotic crane, NASA astronaut Don Pettit snared Dragon at 9:56 a.m. EDT as the two spacecraft zoomed 250 miles over northwest Australia at 17,500 miles per hour.
"“It looks like we've got us a dragon by the tail," Pettit radioed to NASA Mission Control in Houston.
The capsule, built and operated by Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, is the first of two new commercial freighters NASA will use to ferry cargo to the $100 billion space station following the retirement of its space shuttles last year. Rather than building and flying its own ships to the station, the agency is hiring private companies to do the work.
The Dragon capsule is carrying about 1,200 pounds (544 kg) of food, water, clothing and supplies for the station crew, who were scheduled to open the hatch on Saturday.
The spaceship will be repacked with more than 1,300 pounds (590 kg) of equipment to come back to Earth and depart the station on May 31. It would splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern California later that day.
“"As a country we should be very proud," NASA's space station program manager Mike Suffredini told reporters after the station crew attached Dragon to the Harmony connecting node shortly after noon EDT.
"We've taken a capability that this agency has nurtured for many, many years and combined that with a different thought process in the design and development of spacecraft," Suffredini said.
The United States plans to use a similar process to buy commercial flight services for its astronauts as well, breaking Russia's monopoly on flying crews to the station.
"I don't have words enough to express the level of excitement and elation that we feel here at SpaceX," company founder and chief executive Elon Musk said after the docking.
"There's just so much that could have gone wrong and it went right. It's just a fantastic day," he said.
Musk said he got a congratulatory call from President Barack Obama after Dragon reached orbit on its second and most likely final test flight. "Caller ID was blocked, so at first I thought it was a telemarketer," Musk quipped in a Twitter message.
LASER GLITCH
The cone-shaped capsule blasted off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Tuesday. After a successful pass by the station on Thursday to test its navigation and communications systems, Dragon proceeded at a snail's pace on Friday, stopping, starting and occasionally retreating to make sure it could be controlled.
At one point, the SpaceX ground operations team in Hawthorne, California, halted Dragon to adjust the capsule's laser imaging system, which it uses to see the station.
Sensors were picking up stray reflections from the station's Japanese module, said NASA mission commentator Josh Byerly. Dragon ended up using just one of its two laser imaging systems for the final approach to the station, a bit dicey because a failure would have triggered an automatic abort.
But one eye and a pair of thermal imagers was all Dragon needed to position itself 30 feet beneath the station and within arm's reach of the robotic crane that would haul it up for berthing.
PRIVATE DELIVERIES
Dragon's successful test flight will clear SpaceX to begin its 12-flight, $1.6 billion contract with NASA to fly cargo to and from the station.
A second freighter being developed by Orbital Sciences Corp is expected to debut later this year. Orbital holds a second NASA cargo delivery contract worth $1.9 billion.
The Obama administration is pushing Congress to embrace similar partnership arrangement for commercial space taxis to fly astronauts as well.
Legislators last year halved Obama's request for space taxi design work to $406 million. Proposed spending plans for the year beginning October 1 would cut the White House's $830 million request to no more than $525 million.
The Dragon docking marked a major step for the budding role of private enterprise in space travel.
"I think this really is going to be recognized as a significantly historical step forward in space travel, so I hope we're the first of many to come," Musk told reporters.

MTW- Let us hope that this will create some jobs at Cape Canaveral, we need them. I still think the name is funny. If you do not, I do not care. Nobama-Nobiden in 2012!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
