LONDON—On day three of his overseas tour, Mitt Romney woke up to unfriendly headlines from the British media, which continue to trash him for telling NBC News that he found preparations for the Olympics here "disconcerting."
"Mitt the Twit," declared The Sun tabloid, condemning Romney as a "wannabe president." The Independent headlined its take on Romney's trip "Romneyshambles"—accusing him of not only committing a diplomatic gaffe but later "the cardinal sin of U.S. politics, flip-flopping" on his criticism.
The Daily Telegraph suggested Romney's "Olympic gaffe" had overshadowed his trip to London.
Meanwhile, the conservative Daily Mail slammed Romney as "devoid of charm, offensive and a wazzock."
Romney's comments led newscasts on both Sky News and the BBC on Thursday night and early Friday morning, just hours ahead of the Olympic opening ceremonies here.
"Is this guy really prepared to be president?" one Sky News reporter asked in his Thursday night report about Romney's day in London. The reporter trashed the GOP candidate's comments as "just daft."
Romney has repeatedly tried to dial back his criticism, first in a news conference Thursday outside No. 10 Downing Street, where he had met with British Prime Minister David Cameron, who had been publicly critical of Romney's remarks earlier in the day.
In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan Thursday night, Romney again tried to contain the controversy, telling the CNN host he believes the London games will be successful.
"It's great. It's absolutely fabulous," Romney said of being in London for the games. "You know I'd never been to an Olympics before I was given the Olympic job. I mean I've done the same thing everybody else did. I watched the games on TV. But to actually be here and to experience not just the athletes but also the volunteers who are working hard and excited, and then the whole community comes together. … It's fabulous."
Citing the "enthusiasm" of the people in London, Romney added, "I think you are going to see terrific games that will be long time in our memories."
MTW- He was asked a question, then he answered them with what they asked him. He told them HIS opinion, which is what THEY asked him for. He did not pander to what they WANTED to hear, nor did he try to make his remarks insincerely sweet so that they would like it. People knock him for not being diplomatic. What they expected is, that he should have told them what they WHAT THEY WANTED TO HEAR without anything negative, so they would FEEL GOOD about themselves. Instead he told them what he thought, honestly. That folks, is a REAL CHANGE.
In society today so many others feel it is alright to tell how they feel about anything, and with derogatory words, names or demeaning. Yet these same people do not want anyone else to say what is on THEIR mind without name calling, or demeaning, filthy, language, because it is not diplomatic. So, YOU can say what you want, how you want to say it and NOT be diplomatic or respectful, yet when someone else does it, and without all that derogatory, demeaning and filthy language it is wrong? They are used to speaking to Obama, and having their asses kissed.
Any leaders, who feel that someone has to be diplomatic to them, do not care about the truth. They do not want to hear it; rather, only what they want to hear, and hear it nicely, to stroke their egos. If you cannot stand to hear sincere truth then you do not have the character to be a leader. If you as a person cannot stand to hear sincere truth, then you deserve to be lied to and will be. (Obama)
Does anyone remember the un-inviting of the Obamas to the Royal Wedding? How about the fact that Yahoo has released nothing but articles pointing out ALL of the many problems with the Olympics in London? Why is the British Olympic Team the only to have air conditioning? How about the fact that the word CNN, the anti-Republican Network, is in this article? All of the comments on Yahoo about this came from defensive Democrats, still in awe of their beloved non-Citizen President who is a Muslim. Barry Soetoro at Occidental suddenly became Barack Obama at Harvard, with the same school records, which we are not allowed to see. When did he change his name? He had to change it to keep the scholastic records he had accrued as a foreign exchange student, from Indonesia. Quite suspicious, yet Mitt Romney telling his honest opinion is indeed what OUR President should do. I am not the mainstream media. People are getting nothing from them, save for bias. Not here. I am not beholding to one side or another, Republican or Democrat; however, my intelligence must make it easier for me to see that Obama is full of shit, and a terrible leader. No More Obama! I suppose if my Country destroyed an ecosystem with their petroleum company, and Obama let us get away with it- (BP). I see you there reading this, Great Britain, left wing ......s.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
